Looks like it will be turning colder at the end of the week from the E/NE. Lots of excitement in the model forum from our southern friends :D

Hopefully plenty of snow on they way for us. Like @Ruzzi I am hoping for a Forth - Clyde streamer  or even a front from the west trying to push in and stall over us as it hits the cold air and dump a pile of the white stuff :D

A lovely day here in the borders. Calm, cool and mainly sunny.

Went a wee walk with mini Mrs SS and the dugs up Lee Pen at the back of Innerleithen.

Snaw still lingering on the higher peaks in the area.

Six dogs rescued from Liverpool multistorey car park gutted by fire

Headline from the Graun. Seems a strange and cruel thing to do to rescued dogs.

Yes I'm bored.

There was a shower a bit ago.

Cold snap incoming - possibly snowy here Friday night....

Happy New Year All, will the weather deliver an Easterly to kick off 2018 - let's hope so :) Everything crossed, been here, many, many, many times before with the ECM and it's garden of delights...

Was talking to Aurora Storm about this forecast easterly and she was saying that if some of the coldest solutions come off  and we look at a spell of weather similar to December 2010 then  maybe potent winter cold  will  not be so rare in the future and something has changed to cause it.

Also I  am one of those who believes the sun is  an influential driver of our weather and it is now becoming much less active with the lack of sunspots similar to some of the years prior to 2010.   So in my opinion a series of colder winters beckons

The 18z GFS looks interesting from Thursday evening into the early hours of Friday morning.

Heavy snow for central and southern areas if this was to come off but the models are changing with each run even at such a close range. It will probably be gone by the morning runs but it’s good to see the possibility there though instead of boring wet and windy rubbish :)

Some inland areas should do well. Us more coastal folks might need to wait until late Saturday into Sunday before uppers approaching -10c begin to arrive - my interpretation of the charts is open to discussion though. Until then it looks very marginal for the east coast with plenty of green on the charts you posted. In any case I don't expect snow until I'm out of the country on Monday

Some folk are going to get pasted within the next week, the charts are loaded with potential. Some lucky punter will get 6 inches on Friday as the low passes through and another six inches into Saturday as the wind ends up NEly with loads of showers off the North Sea. Upland Perthshire somewhere?

One thing which doesn't look likely is mild mush...10C any time soon? Unlikely.

Yep. Someone's getting the sledges out for sure! Really liking this winter so far. Loads of potential which makes a change from the last few years!

whats the betting @More Snowdoes well out of this :D

as CMD says almost anyone could..... we do not too bad in NE as long as there is a fair bit of E so fingers crossed i break the sledge drought

still a worrying amount of prexip charts have the snowshield in place but these charts not the most reliable at 3/4 days out

real potential for a cracking cold spell especially @101_North heading away and taking one for the team

Frost this morning now sleety pish. Glad I took the opportunity for a nice walk in hills yesterday.

Looking interesting towards the end of the week certainly.

Was just thinking the same thing myself (re yesterday).

For the likes of Norrance, Sawel etc. in the Dundee area the good news is I won’t be here for much of the upcoming weekend so you have a reason to be hopeful! :D

With both @101_North and me away things are looking up for the east coast contingent!

Oh for sleety pish. Just cold drizzly muck turning heavier in the last hour, and the lights haven't gone off since breakfast. The prospect of a return to work doesn't help.

Happy New Year, kilters.

After an overnight frost, we then had some of the afore-mentioned sleety pish. However, a couple of hours ago, this turned to wet snaw and it's been belting down with varying degrees of intensity ever since. An unexpected wintry surprise. Currently 0.4C/1C.

Afternoon all! Well, that's the deccies doon and the cards ready for re-cycling. Will be staying aff the sauce for a week or so just to give the liver some respite. As for the weather, horizontal rain and cauld wi' it. Out for walkies later if the rain goes aff. Snaw for some at the weekend, probably not for me, but since we've already had a drop or two this winter, I can live with that! Enjoy it when it comes!❄❄❄⛄⛄⛄
