Loads of uncertainty for Wednesday into Thursday of course with the 12Z GFS modelling Wednesday night's storm 100-150 miles further south. Consequently, even at 'peak mild', its suggested DPs remain freezing or below for Scotland from tonight until Friday at least so reducing the chances of a slush-fest. Only one model, and one run but I'd take it !

Well you best grab it before it's gone by the 18zs!   Dunno where I am with the modelling.    Feeling slightly dizzy!  :blink2:

Of course @Hawesy would tell you it's the wet bulb temp that's important...

Then who am I to argue! Wet bulb it is :D

Now that is a very pretty sight!

Lightning so far detected at Ullapool, the Solway Firth and St.Kilda.

Snow showers becoming intense over Skye and the southern inner Hebrides.

Flakes now noticeable in the rain under the lamppost outside the office. Dare I say it's coming!

Mad snow depths modelled by WRF now, and considering how much truck the Met Office give that model, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them issue amber warnings soon.

Sorry to ramp, but when a 'serious' short term mesoscale weather model suggests it's possible that wide areas might see 30-40 cm, I just can't help myself :)

Someone asked on Twitter earlier why there is no Amber warning - they got this response.

Hard to tell what is coming down, still looks like rain but splodgy as if about to turn sleety, although to me doesn't feel cold enough yet. Glasgow Airport Weather station showing 3oC and dew point 2 so not quite there yet I would think. Airport forecast showing 2oC and rain all night - UGGHH!

I keep looking at all these charts and see a suspicious looking gap along the Clyde Valley....

One of the charts on the last page even had a gap in snow cover around where Glasgow should be, whilst being completely surrounded by deep snow.

Say it aint so.:cc_confused:

That's a great shout. Put it in there with a post full of happy emoticons and how brilliant the charts are, and how well they modelled this.

Now, now!!! :) Let's not be too confident. It hasn't happened yet, exciting as those charts are to look at. A Scotland wide snow event would be great, a UK wide snow event would be even better. The more the merrier I say.

The Glasgow, Clyde valley will be less likely to get snow because of altitude as much as anything.  I think that is covered by the Met Office 2-7 cm guidance.

The lack of Amber warnings baffles me a bit but I suppose that the answer to that is in the word showers (rather than persistent snow).

You can sense the excitement this eve. It's like waiting for Elvis to enter the building. Let's hope every single one of us has a positive snow story to tell in the next 24-48 hours.

Both the TAF and the automated Met-O forecasts for Glasgow Airport show snow after midnight. What forecast are you using?

The Glasgow Airport Weather Station has a little forecasting feature. I do see snow on some other forecasts but for tomorrow.
