The 12z runs throw up 3 slightly different tracks for the Weds-Thurs storm with three very different outcomes for Scotland:

GFS, snow for the north, rain for the south and storm force gusts for the IoM and northern England.

UKMO, snow for the south, not much for the north:

ECM, rain for the north, 90mph gusts across the south:

Unusually the low is deepening as it crosses us, the ECM outcome would be brutal for the south.

Jeez can't it just make up its mind? My guess will be rain for the north, of course.

I'll be kkeping a keen eye on the webcam in Leadhills tomorrow afternoon, and then through Tuesday. Me and another member of this forum ;-) installed it in the Hopetoun Arms about a year ago and it's made for great weather watching .... http://www.winterhighland.info/cams/lowtherhill/

Your efforts are appreciated! - I quite regularly check the Leadhills cam and the one up on the Lowthers to see how conditions are for walking in the area.  Snapped this one back on 15th December a couple of miles down the road in Wanlockhead - the coming week might make this snow cover look like a mere smattering depending on the track of the low midweek.

METO forecast - no grin big enough! However now panicking as car going into garage for repair which leaves me with ancient rear wheel drive campervan. Think if this comes off I'll be working from home.

Tuesday looks like the day if anything is going to happen, MO got me with a 2 snowflake symbol now, rather than one snow and one lousy rain symbol!.

When will we know for sure where the snow is going to hit?

Last time we had a snow warning the hubby was going to see the consultant re poss throat cancer,  and on Wed he's to be in hospital for 8am to have an op. Trust the snow to come at the worst possible time - I'd hate to have to cancel this after him waiting and worrying for so long.

The 18z GFS looks better as it has the low a tad further south bringing snow further south also.

Sorry to hear this, it’s hard to tell just now how bad the snow will be. I think it’s just a case of wait and see and check the radar. Hopefully for you Wednesday is dry or raining with clear roads. I hope everything works out well!

Thought id pop into the Scotland Regionals to see if there was any more detailed discussion on the storm expected wed/thurs.

We planning a skiing trip to Glencoe on Thursday and friday so hoping the wind isnt too bad as 50mph+ can cause issues with the chairlift.

Getting a lot of variations in the wind speeds all the way out on Thursday from 15mph up to 55mph gusts.  Thankfully GFS 18z tonight plays down the wind a bit for the highlands but will be dropping into the thread to see if any more detailed discussions for the area happen. :D

In reply to Snowy Owl. The BBC screened a program about it on Wednesday, The Storm that Saved a City. It is mainly about devastation the 1968 storm caused Glasgow but it is also a social statement about the unbelievable levels of poverty and degradation that still existed in 1968. It is well worth a watch, it is still on BBC iplayer.

Just playing the game.. one mans downgrade is anothers upgrade and all that.. they are already calling the end of winter coz the SSW looks like its not going to happen either, they bang on about the lack of snow south of the M4 yet they all seem to forget that the UK exists North of it.

You are right! Even the rest of England north of the M4 must be fed up with all the gash that gets posted in there.

I hope we get plenty of snow this week and look forward to seeing all the amazing pictures from everyone :D

Oh so very naughty. Must be something in the wind.... lol.

Anyway... looking good for us in Scotland. Waiting with baited breath to see what tomorrow brings. Everything so far is heading us on the direction of a cold week.

have a feeling that I may just escape the worst of it this time round as to far east but then again I did have one hell of a December and I would be more than happy to see others get lucky and look forward to seeing the pics of every body else with the snaw.
