Just finished peeling all the veg for tomorrows  lunch and went out  to cattle with the peelings and its still raining as it has done since about midday. Still frozen bits of snow in shelterd areas. Currently 2.5c.

May I wish everyone  a Happy New Year and if we are very lucky we may seem dry snow in the New Year.

Been away a few days, catching snow here and there in Scotland and England. Best bit was watching the summer-rubber wearers sliding backwards down a snowy hill in Kendal (albeit quite steep), then doing an easy hill start in the Golf with the Weatherproofs on and a full load of luggage and passengers. Also the A701 was good fun a couple of times....

Oh yeah - Happy New Year!!

Winter won"t let go this morning, clear and frosty start at -2c with ice on everything. Local bonfire last night was moonlit and calm, ideal conditions

The GFS 06z is rather selfishly my idea of heaven. Perfect set-up for copious amounts of snow for my location.

Starts off early hours of Saturday with a band snow moving south

IMG_7328.thumb.PNG.c38eac7f2a7fb087e6bf39f446c2e4fb.PNG

some fairly heavy snowfall in that band on this run, but then following on from the band clearing south is the setting up of the Forth - Clyde streamer. (Sorry to keep going on about it, but the ECM last night showed a very similar scenario)

The precipitation charts illustrate the streamer perfectly. Problem being, the orientation of the low and high pressure, needs to be pretty spot on and the uppers need to be very decent to pull it off properly, probably about (-7, -8 in the 850's). It's looking promising at the moment, but still 5 days away so buckets of salt required just now.

The last decent streamer here was march 2013 which gave ridiculous amounts of snow and drifting In the space of only 8 hours. Defo worth keeping an eye on

Looking promising for here too but uppers need to be very low for snow here in an easterly! I'd love to see -10's before I get really excited - providing everything else falls into place! I can remember rain from the east with -9c uppers! The charts you've posted suggest it being pretty marginal on the coasts. Further inland you're laughing :)
