Snaw petered out before 3pm here. Ended up with 5cm. Max of 0.2C today and currently 0.1C/0C and kinda murky. So far, a decent start to winter 2017-18.

Snaps from this arvo attached.

About 3cm from this morning which at least looks nice :)

Very nice! Matches my total snowfall for the current decade (i.e. since Jan 2011).

Think I’ll move to Ayrshire and live next door to @aggy :D

About 6 or 7cm up here in the end, which makes it the best fall of the winter in these parts.....but not close to Storm Doris in Feb this year. There were footprints EVERYWHERE today! Nice to see folk seizing the moment ?

No idea of temperature but sounds like there's a fair bit of thawing outside.

Yesterday was a great morning of snow for Glasgow. Like others have said the best snow day in a few years.

Very rapid thaw and rain now means that most of it has gone here. Must've been a good 4 inches in central Glasgow so probably a bit more in the elevated suburbs.

Pelting down with rain here.   Still a fair bit of snow around though.   Gritters just gone up the brae.

The rain and milder air has virtually killed the snow cover here still a little left but more or less patches

Dreich and drizzly here since mid-morning. 3c.

While I’ve yet to see any snow at home November and December have been notable for the number of great sunny weekend days we’ve had over here. Today being an exception. It’s been brilliant for walking.

Wailey, wailey!

My garden has transposed from yesterday's pristine whiteness to a sad sack patchwork of shrinking slushy patches and dreepy bushes.

Please, can my winter wonderland return? Even the dog is missing you!

Cold  dull day with temperature just above freezing a little rain just now with it freezing to the ground. No sign of a major warm up in the next week and seems to be at least a ground frost every night for my neck of the woods.  Winter is here.

Am I right in thinking that the storm that hit on 3rd January 2012 strengthened just hours before hitting the central belt causing damaging winds and the Met Office issuing a red warning?

I seem to remember a flash red warning for the central belt and experiencing some of the scariest winds I have ever witnessed. It was worse than the famously named storm Hurricane Bawbag a month earlier:rofl:

I wonder if Dylan has the potential to do the same :cc_confused:

Can happen, the storm of January 2015 (I think?) was much stronger here than forecast with winds gusting up to 95mph here. Many old forests lost many trees, roofs came off, sheds ended up in neighbours gardens etc. Pretty sure one of our members from Lewis lost a roof and had to be rescued?

Similar to biggreyface above, the only time I've been frightened by the weather. Remember going outside briefly to get the dog and I had to actually take shelter behind a wall for a few minutes with him it was that bad!

I think the consensus on here was that it was courtesy of a sting jet.

The wind tomorrow isn't going to be the storm of the century but it's going to pack a reasonable slap for many parts of the country. A couple of the models look as if they've got a mini-backslap for Fife on the way out with gusts of 70mph possible. Not much in the big scheme of things but perhaps not that common for Fife? @Hawesy can correct me on this :)

@CatchMyDrift From memory the 2011/12 storms had 80+ mph gusts at (relatively sheltered) Leuchars so 70 mph gusts would be notable. As always depends on your location, along the coast not such a big deal but 70 mph for inland Fife would certainly cause issues. The local barometer is the Tay Bridge, if it’s closed to all vehicles (not just high-sided) then it’s a proper storm.

A potential NE'rly on the cards next weekend. I don't like ramping as you all know but this is my favourite set up for two reasons.

1: It pleases almost everyone. Very few parts of Scotland tend to miss out; Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth etc are all in the mix for seeing some decent snowfall should conditions play ball.

2: It often leads to a foot of snow here via the Moray Firth & Great Glen streamer. :cold:

Fingers crossed folks! :drinks:
