Surbiton also has a very yellowy tinge to the clouds along with a positively Mediterranean wind making for a sultry 'before the storm' feel, as others have noted. Unfortunately the sky is very resolutely cloudy here, so I can't get a red sun shot. During these kinds of unusual events it's great having a forum like this to share and learn - @Nick F's blog made for an interesting read regarding Saharan sand with a bit of Portuguese wild fires thrown in to explain what's happening.

Very dark here with an orange sky and rather eerie.  Looks like a Martian sky which would make sense with the Saharan dust!

Goes from yellow to red-ish yellow to just dark then back to yellow. The sun is red if it makes an appearance.

Am heading out soon.

wish me luck.

It's gone extra weird here in Croydon, can just about see the sky to the west from my basement window and it's dark, feels all eclipsy....

Weird goings on in Brighton.....exceptionally dark.......and orangey....camera does not do it justice.....

Just along the coast from you now in Saltdean lsf..strange day to say the least.

A balmy sunny morning with tropical breezes.Red hazy sunshine, then daytime dusk.Birds going crazy thinking night is falling as street lights come on.Really can smell a sulphur smell in the air too.

Can someone tell the Sahara to give their weather back!? Very dark brown/orange sky right now, very eerie. What a change from yesterday when there were beautiful blue skies.

Just been out to get the kids on the school run and saw a blanket of orange and black cloud rolling in , amazingly some of the clouds seemed to be blue yes blue , There was also occasionally a heavily blob of rain falling , I tried to see if any dust was deposited on the cars etc but visibility isn’t that great . Here are some pics I’ve taken . There is also quite a steady wind blowing but obviously nothing to what’s happening further west .

Hi All,

wow it is dark (with an orange tint) here in Southend, this is my first time back in Essex for a few weeks and it looks like someone turned the lights off whilst I was away, was this a predicted side effect of the tropical strom?

Cheers

FC

It’s amazing I’m near Horsham.

Its reminding me of the eclipse 1999,

It started around 1:30pm here. Suddenly huge gust of wind and the sun turned Red, around 2:30pm it was getting dark had to put my lights on. Then everything looked yellow! Brightening up a little now....impressive clouds, deep grey sky with orange and yellow swirls of cloud.
