if there was ever a night to chase up to the south downs & out towards the M3 its tonight

this is maybe a 1 in 5 year event-

10/10:15 radar shows deeper echoes on the eastern channel flank -

better for the SE...

That storm just north west of London is a thing of beauty and a rare beast for the UK. A full fledged severe thunderstorm with some classic radar returns with a well defined hook. There is going to be a report of at least a funnel cloud from that surely along with some very gusty winds. It seems it is on course to hit my location in a couple of hours as well.

Add to that the mass of scattered thunderstorms brewing in the channel as well. This could be a classic night. In fact that lot in the chanell could very well merge into a huge band of thundery rain which again could be an event we haven't seen in years with a widespread area seeing several hours of heavy rain along with lots of lightning and thunder.

The lightning on the NE horizon has really gone mad! Must be an epic storm, lucky people under it! Looks like more incoming from the Channel.

So wanted a good storm! Been so breezy today, however breeze dropped and clouds gathered, then....rain. Hey ho, can't control the weather!

I can see lightning to the south west of me now, and there are a few spots of rain from the anvil at the moment, the main event is still miles away.

Looking at the path of the most intense rain, it is looking like a direct hit for me (Cue sudden death of this storm or it suddenly splits :p )

Started getting a few distant rumbles around 9pm. Few spots of rain and some beautiful lightning to the southwest.

Had two intense downpours, still raining now but not as heavy. Lightning and thunder still in the near distance.

Ooh I can't wait for the half dozen or spots of rain from that anvil, which will probably reach further NE later. I'm beside myself, I really am...

Is Lightning Maps broken? I've been watching it most of the evening now suddenly I'm getting an error coming up. Just as it looks like something may be heading this way....typical!

It actually looks like a fairly major storm North West of me, maybe Streatham way, flashes very couple of seconds I hear no thunder so can't work out how distant it is

I think I'm too far east, but it's too humid and I'm holding out hope. Fingers crossed some of those channel storms build or drift eastwards.

I'm having the same problems with the lightning map!

Get an error message saying something when wrong check your Java settings :wallbash:

Also no new strikes showing on the netweather storm app, but I can clearly see and hear close strikes.

RIght now I can hear thunder, this is now within about ten miles of me now, it looks like the worst will miss me (Huntingdon looks to be the sweet spot for this storm). Plenty going on over NE London and of course that lot slowly advancing from the English channel.
