I can hear loads of thunder to my SW - hoping for a direct hit.

Rather short-lived, that.  Some thunder, a couple of flashes of lightning (IC, I think), and 3-4 minutes of rain that''s already evaporating.

Just had a spectacular thunderstorm here in New Ash green. I managed to miss all the lightning strikes, but holy cr** that was some loud thunder! Rain was also extremely heavy, on a par with the ferocious and downright scary storm on 25th June last year, except no hail.

It's been interesting to watch this morning's developments. From scattered but rather unorganised heavy showers out to the west of our Region earlier, to a more organised band of storms now about to clear out into the North Sea, with numerous lightning strikes registering on the Netweather radar. There were plenty of gaps in the storm band (particularly for London and south Essex), so not everyone saw any action, but a better effort than I was expecting.

Wow, big storm here. Incredibly loud thunder. Sure at least one of those was a positive strike too... (5% sometimes seems a bit low...)

Maybe 20 mins of rain so far. Think it's clearing out now.

That was when it passed through here, Malcolm.  It certainly had the hallmarks of a squall line.:)

No BB that is all on this ‘episode’ I never got anything so count yourself lucky - turned out like one of those lines in Lord Tennyson’s poem ‘Cannon to the right of them. Cannon to the left of them’. Nothing head on to my location line of charged cells to south and to north. Severe parameters in place not utilised unfortunate I didn’t expect anything nonetheless.

The sunshine after this morning's band of storms cleared east was short-lived and has now been replaced by cloud. But the most noticeable feature is the really strong wind that's got up. We've just had a gust of 26 mph here and the trend is still increasing in strength. I believe stainsbloke has gone on holiday, so I'll say it for him - "that vile wind is back". :)

I

Half a league, half a league,

Half a league onward,

All in the valley of Death

   Rode the six hundred.

“Forward, the Light Brigade!

Charge for the guns!” he said.

Into the valley of Death

   Rode the six hundred.

II

“Forward, the Light Brigade!”

Was there a man dismayed?

Not though the soldier knew

   Someone had blundered.

   Theirs not to make reply,

   Theirs not to reason why,

Theirs but to do and die.

   Into the valley of Death

   Rode the six hundred.

III

Cannon to right of them,

Cannon to left of them,

Cannon in front of them

   Volleyed and thundered;

Stormed at with shot and shell,

Boldly they rode and well,

Into the jaws of Death,

Into the mouth of hell

   Rode the six hundred.

IV

Flashed all their sabres bare,

Flashed as they turned in air

Sabring the gunners there,

Charging an army, while

   All the world wondered.

Plunged in the battery-smoke

Right through the line they broke;

Cossack and Russian

Reeled from the sabre stroke

   Shattered and sundered.

Then they rode back, but not

   Not the six hundred.

V

Cannon to right of them,

Cannon to left of them,

Cannon behind them

   Volleyed and thundered;

Stormed at with shot and shell,

While horse and hero fell.

They that had fought so well

Came through the jaws of Death,

Back from the mouth of hell,

All that was left of them,

   Left of six hundred.

VI

When can their glory fade?

O the wild charge they made!

   All the world wondered.

Honour the charge they made!

Honour the Light Brigade,

   Noble six hundred!

God today is as bad as yesterday.

Still warmer than yesterday here.

It feels horrible out here, so much for a fresher feel.

Bloody SW winds.

Whens the proper cooler weather getting here.

It's windy, grey and rather cool here; without wanting in incite an agggressive reply, perhaps you're slightly too close to London to be getting the cooler conditions?

Well after hitting the heady heights of 21c at 9am this morning.....we've managed to climb all the way to.....21c this afternoon :D

Heat wave well and truly broken. Cloud leaden grey all day, so back to your typical UK weather now.

Lol to the above.

Nope am as far away as possible from london in a due easterly direction, any more east and I would fall of the edge of the world, well into the water anyways.

Good point - I was thinking more north-south.

Once we get the SW winds we are always the warmest here, as I said warmer today than yesterday, hard to believe isnt it.

Most definitely warmer here than yesterday, at least with the humidity it feels it. Grey skies and that westerly wind is blowing but blowing warm air unfortunately. If we can't  get a decent storm than could we please at least get the fresher air :(

According to the UEA weather station on Wunderground, today's high was 22C, currently 18.7C with no heat index or windchill, as compared with a high yesterday of 25.3C.  To me, it feels quite cool out there in the breeze.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
