Not too bad a day with sunny spells lasting well into afternoon. Breezy, but thanks to the sunshine it felt warmer than the 17.5C max recorded.

But a poor 36 hours coming up with the wind the talking point tomorrow. Gusts widely of 40 mph but possibly up to 55 mph near the Region's coasts. Rainfall amounts generally around 10 - 20 mm, but Arpege suggesting the possibility of double this for a few locations (particularly Norfolk).

Gusts Tues 20.00 59359d4633755_ArpegeGustsTues06Jun20_00.thumb.png.71ad47387cc7f3b9a66e9abb3c9450b3.png

Pishing it down here! I don't mind some decent rainfall and the allotment will love it. It's those winds at this time of the year that I can't stand, destructive and unnecessary.

Yep, proper rain. Have you had any luck with your melon plants? My watermelon plants enjoyed the warmth last week (in the greenhouse) and are growing quite strongly.

I'm very surprised there is no ⚠️ with trees in full leaf there should be IMO.

Agree, 60mph+ gusts on coasts warrants a warning. Looks nasty tomorrow too, even worse for N France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Dodgy seed maybe? If you sow another load, will they catch up?

Its chucking it down here and lots of thunder. The seagulls are going nuts/

Odd you should have thunder, the nearest sferics appear to be in Italy and Austria ?  Are you sure it's not a stray wheely bin :cc_confused:

Its definitely thunder. I did look at the lightning map before I posted and thought it strange.

I always hate Low Pressure systems that just rain. But I love a proper Low Pressure system with frequent wind gusts and heavy rain. And this one is providing just that.

Grey with a very fine mizzle to start and a cool 13C here. The heavy rain only crawling towards the bulk of East Anglia but a truly awful looking morning for folk in the south of the Region. I wondering if the Arpege accumulation chart I posted earlier had the largest rainfall totals in the wrong place (too far north)?

Wow! What a change from late-May. I think it's quite ironic that the winds today are stronger than most of the winds we had during winter!  I can certainly see there being a lot of fallen trees and localised flooding by the afternoon. Bring it on! I love cold, wet and miserable summers. 2012 was almost the perfect summer for me. :D

Well...I'm sure this should have warranted a yellow as driving conditions are poor, A road is really slow. Dread to think how my allotment is getting on. (ok, it was nice going to sleep listening to the wind in the trees last night..but it's pretty wild out there this morning).

@stainesbloke @lassie23  Had no intention of buying a melon but we went for a country drive and ended up in this garden centre where people were just snapping up these melon plants for a pound and I though what have I got to lose!!

The wind gusts are pretty strong here on the coast, my fragile eucalyptus 9ft tall but skinny trunk was almost over this morning, had to wedge a large plank of wood against its branches to help upright it, I fear it will be ranked out the ground by the end of the day :( still waiting for some decent rainfall, about 1mm overnight.

my weather station has recorded 21.3mm of rain just since midnight, plus the 11.9mm it recorded last night that's 33.2mm in 24 hours in my garden, most it's had in a long long time.

29.8mph max gust today so far, I expect that to go up a fair bit yet looking at the forecast...

good old British summer has arrived lol
