Mercury's back!

March is usually the best time of the year to see the planet Mercury in the northern hemisphere (unless you're an early bird, in which case before sunrise in early autumn is good too). Just seen it myself - it's faintly visible with the naked eye low down in the dusk in the west. Worth taking a look for it in the next few days before it disappears into the twilight again.

We're back at that time of year again - March is generally the best month to see Mercury in the evening in the northern hemisphere, and this time Mercury is easy to see as it's just above Venus. I saw it yesterday at about 1 o'clock relative to the brighter planet. Look for the pair low in the western sky starting half an hour after sunset. On 18 March they will be joined by the slender crescent moon too.
