I  am sitting looking the south and west  a lot lighting going on and in Warminster and I could hear a distant thunder thunder

The 18Z NetWx SR is a howler. It isn't even showing anything that is occurring in the Southwest.

can't sleep as it's so warm, so currently out in the back garden watching an amazing light show....skies here are still clear, but way off to south and south west, lightning is flickering 2 or 3 flashes per second, it's like a strobe light!!

My plan wouldn't be drive to where it is now but to meet it somewhere in the Midlands. I fear it will have lost its fuel by the time it gets as far north as here. As you said though, it's a big call.

just looked at the radar loop for the past hour......Carlsberg don't do explosive storm development, but if they did...................

I can see lots more lightning going from Cloud  two cloud lighting up the sky and I can hear a distant rumble of thunder as I am in the back garden in Warminster
