Hope it manages to land at Birmingham.  The Virgin flight is still on his trail.

Oops, just read that Snow_Joke.  Presumably London is calmer than Birmingham?

I've finally got the scanner running with new batteries put in, Easyjet in the hold looking to divert into LPL, UAE17 and Vueling heading south. Not sure if this was mentioned before but Great Northern trains may be looking at running on a strictly minimal timetable throughout the afternoon with most services cancelled.

UAE17 almost 90L now into Manchester and still unable to land

How much extra fuel do the likes of Emirates carry?

Enough fuel for

- Taxi time

- Flight time

- Contigency (either 5% of flight time or 5 minutes holding time)

- Alternate (to fly a missed approach and have enough to divert to an alternative airport)

- Reserve (+ 30 minutes)

- More if they want (sometimes cheaper to tanker fuel and fill up at airports where it is cheaper)

Sad to report that another large part of Colwyn Bay pier has collapsed into the sea, could well mean the end for this historic listed building.

The Virgin one only came from Gatwick

What was their thinking or is it training a pilot in such conditions

North wales seaside towns have died badly anyway since the late 80`s now that.

Rhyl in particular.

Wind has picked up again now eased, just a rogue gust.

Edit that was powerful.

Plane might have been out of position. Virgin sometimes do Manchester -> X -> London -> Y -> Manchester pattern flights but sometimes they have to shuttle planes if they are out of position because of other delays or cancellations.

Cold, strong gusty NW winds following Doris, with wintry showers. Closer to the low centre. still lot of extreme W winds with high damaging gusts for Midlands, East Anglia into the SE. Westerly winds scooting through the Bristol channel along the M4. M48 Severn Bridge: CLOSED to high-sided vehicles due to high winds.. Also, strong NE winds picking up for Tyne and Wear now

any photos?

I have some video and photos but there wasn't much to see, the snow wasn't settling and more sleety in nature and it was misty. I'll get some online soon!
