Back in Kirkby seen a few trees down on the wirral M53 down to 50mph just shut the road outside goodison Park got diverted

Just been on the moor behind my house with my  trusty hand held anemometer. At 350m the mean speed was 53 mph, gusting 75 mph. With continuous moderate sleet 10 minutes was more than enough.

Winds have quickly eased here in birmingham.

Landings suspended for now at Manchester, all flights holding. For UAE17 and the Virgin 747 they'll have plenty in reserve for diversions with contingency plans having been dealt with prior to departure. Prestwick/Glasgow are normally the favored diversion airfields.

Section of the M56 near Helsby now closed as is the The Thelwall Viaduct. Seeing reports of local power outages too with traffic lights out at busy junctions.
