The wind has suddenly dropped out interestingly.

Yep same here. Had a gust of 32  mph before but now nothing. Think it may have been a  squally shower. .

Starting to pick up again slowly now behind what I assume was indeed the cold front

Pressure is still falling slowly so I don't know. I would expect the wind to veer and the pressure to stop falling if it was the main cold front.

TRACKING STORM DORIS          ***I will provide regular updates during today on this post***

The charts below will update automatically every 10 minutes

PRESSURE 1MB GRADIENT                    WIND GUSTS KMPH            AVERAGE WIND SPEED KMPH         SATELLITE (GMT + 1HOUR)

       pression2_uk.png             rafales_uk.png         vent_uk.png          anim_ir.gif

Conversion: 1.6 kmph = 1 mph or 1 kmph = 0.625 mph

HERE ARE THE LINKS TO THE ANIMATED CHARTS - ONCE THERE CLICK ON "ANIMATION 24" (immediately above the chart) TO SEE THE HOURLY PROGRESSION OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS (takes about 10 seconds to load up) - YOU CAN ALSO PLACE THE CURSOR OVER EACH FIGURE SHOWN ON THE FIRST THREE CHARTS TO SEE THE FULL READINGS FOR EACH LOCATION:

 PRESSURE:             http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/pression.php?region=uk

 WIND GUSTS:          http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/vent-rafales.php?region=uk

 WIND SPEED:          http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/vent.php?region=uk

There seems to be even tighter gradients on the south-west flank (as at 0700) and the strongest wind gusts are spreading even further south - currently approaching south-west Wales (not just North Wales).

@markwells  The "live pressure chart from Meteoceil above is based on actual pressure readings which are shown in yellow figures. The drawing up of the isobars can take several 10 minute updates to be accurate (with the white figure readings). For instance,on the 0720 chart there was a reading of 973mb (at Ronaldsway Airport - Isle of Man) slightly south of the 975mb central pressure shown. The track is very slightly further north than predicted but the pressure gradient is even tighter on the south-west flank - just about to the cross the Irish Sea.  @summer fun @Chris.R @Stratocumulus perlucidus and other members in your area - by 0900, Blackpool's, Liverpool's and Merseyside's winds should have strengthened considerably.

@WorsleySnow I know that you were joking in your post - the Meteoceil map sometimes covers one reading with another from a nearby location. In this case at 0800, Valley was showing 128 kmph, covering up Mona with 106 kmph. The link to the charts (I show above) allow you to check each reading.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT (1) - 1030: The Capel Curig reading may turn out to be the strongest gust that storm Doris produces but there is now a region of very strong winds moving through central Wales from 1000 to 1100, then heading east-south-eastwards towards the west Midlands around 1130 to 1230 and looks like reaching the northern Home Counties by around 1400 and over through East Anglia by 1500. You can see the squeeze in the isobars coming through mid Wales now.

@Delka I would estimate for you in north Norfolk (1030 gusts were 30-45 mph with the odd one over 50 mph) - winds picking up around 1230 to 1400 (40-50 mph gusts with a peak of 60 mph) and at their strongest around 1430 to 1500 (perhaps 50-60 mph gusts with a peak of 70 mph) and subsiding by 1630 - 1700. If you are right on the coast (with Hunstanton facing west) you can add on another 5-10 mph for the strongest gusts (really exposed coastal areas on top of cliffs get the strongest gusts - but I believe that you are pretty low lying in north-west Norfolk). The strongest winds may just be a little to the south of you this afternoon. The east Norfolk (and Suffolk) coasts will also take a pounding with the strong winds from the land and the those coming up through the English Channel into the south North Sea merging this afternoon.

@Delka You seem quite concerned. The 1100 readings in your area showed the following peak gusts:

Holbeach (Lincs - alt 3m) 95 kmph = 59.375 mph (average speed 67 kmph = 41.875 mph).

Weybourne (Norfolk - alt 21m) 97 kmph = 60.625 mph (average speed 61 kmph = 38.125 mph).

Marham (Norfolk - alt 23m) 78 kmph = 48.75 mph (average speed 60 kmph = 37.5 mph).

Wittering (Cambs - alt 23m) 93 kmph = 58.125 mph (average speed 56 kmph = 35.0 mph).

EDIT (2):-1045:  There is also an area of very strong winds moving up through the English Channel - 119 kmph (74.375 mph) at 1000 in the Dover Straits and 126 kmph (78.75 mph) just north of that at Buoy 62170 (about 20 miles off the north-east Kent coast) and at 1100 134 kmph (83.75 mph).

EDIT (3):-1245:  There is now a very tight pressure gradient to the west as well as the south-west of the LP centre. Hence some stronger gusts again in the Merseyside area and strong gusts moving down through west Yorkshire, Derbyshire and into the north Midlands. The winds are now at their strongest in the south Midlands  with the east Midlands, the northern Home Counties and East Anglia to face the brunt of it between 1400 and 1600. Finally as Doris moves out further into the North Sea, the east coast (and another helping for Norfolk too) will see some strong northerlies for a while (around 1500 to 1700). Further south there are some occasional very strong (100 kmph+) gusts but lower average wind speeds.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Lincs Observation You may find that this is only a lull. As Doris moves further out into the North Sea, the winds down the east coast will veer into the north or even north-east by 1500 to 1600 and you may well see another brief periods or stronger winds then (for an hour or so).

Looking at bring back 62 63's live pressure chart and comparing it with the weather online chart above posted by MWB it seems that the centre of Doris is a little further North than predicted or is that Wrong?

Getting quite bad here now. A constant roaring from the trees. Getting flashbacks to February 2014.
