Oh! so now Matt H alludes to 'troublesome' winter synoptics...it's been like that for the last few weeks, I'd read that with some pessimism regarding cold into February.

Why?...'troublesome' in terms of the effects of the ssw and MJO phases, Matt hasn't exactly been accurate with his thoughts the last couple of weeks.

I think you need to carefully read it again, and try not to concentrate solely on the word "troublesome"

Nothing there to read carefully...if I had read Matt's tweets carefully over the last few weeks I would have been all consumed by the prospects of something special almost by now - outside in my garden this morning shoe deep in mud.

Was clearly trending back up, but where next?

AO clearly heading in the right direction, NAO more tentative I would say but not going positive for long.

Yes, agreed, not without interest going forward. I hate having to be patient.

Lol, me too but taking things as they come now and feel there will be many more twists and turns before winter's over.  Will we benefit?  Who knows but I certainly don't think winter can be written off just yet?!  Different story last year.......

Whilst it's looking promising, I'm going to sound like a broken record here (apologies!!), my concern is Nina may spoil the party at the last minute!  Still, could be much worse!
