Now we are homing in on a almost negative AO for every day of this month (bar first two days). Years to experience similar. Not too keen on any of those years, couldn't remember what happened in 2009, 2010 or 2012...

I’d say swathes of the NH are already getting slammed.  Record snow in Japan, record snow NE US.  Intense cold Siberia and record cold innNorthern India.

A quick search I found these “The highest barometric pressure ever recorded was 1083.8mb (32 in) at Agata, Siberia, Russia (alt. 262m or 862ft) on 31 December 1968. This pressure corresponds to being at an altitude of nearly 600 m (2,000 ft) below sea level! Made more amazing by the fact that the place where it was measured was 262 m (826 ft) above sea level! ”

I mentioned in the model thread the runs have been showing around 1060-1065 hpa frequently but there have been those 1070hpa runs too. Either way another thing you would imagine will be a big positive for the strat warming

Interesting that is refers to the previous weakest zonal wind being 1998 - that's was not a memorable winter by any stretch. Shows that it is one factor amongst many.
