Good morning,  south eastern contingent.

Just poped in quick.

This morning s 6z gfs has potentially the sharpest cold spell/incursion for our little part of the world in many 'a' moons -12/14 850hpas looking distinctive as we move through next week with ample opportunities for convection= precipitation in snow flurry/shower penertation.

I'll pop back in later as we move towards a possible back edgr conversion to "at least" falling snow this evening/ tomorrow. ..still lots of resolve on this yet. ..have a good en.

Fingers crossed we see a bit this evening fellow Uxbridgian!

Ian brown got banned I believe, I've seen him on twitter spouting large teapot [email protected] :p

Tomorrow marks four years since I plucked the courage & signed up to this forum beforehand I just looked on from afar, I did it because the SE thread was not accessible in times of wintry interest January 2013, it's gone so fast! A lot has changed since.

Still looking good for Crawley, if anything there is an upgrade. They were showing heavy snow for only a small period of time and then light snow but now BBC and meto are showing heavy snow the whole way through.

Anyone else here from Crawley or Horsham?

I live in Crawley but work in Horley fingers crossed.

Congrats

Not seen Ian for ages unless now under a diff name. He was fun to read on the model output

Yes Ian Brown is an absolute Netweather legend in my opinion!

Hoping to see something today. Keeping an open mind re snowfall...

BBC's Darren Bett raises concern about quantity of snow in SE and E Anglia this evening, just now, brushing off back-edge snow elsewhere in England, but focusing on the SE/E Anglia.

I think he got the all time rep points when he said 'I don't believe it' to a 2010 chart

I tempted to pay for snow/rain charts are there any recommendations ?

Makes sense, they'll keep the precipitation for longer and will have it later with more cold undercut.

"100 flights cancelled at Heathrow due to snow" source: BBC news.

How embarrassing- other countries must absolutely pi** themselves at us.

Fair enough if we were due some 6 inch blizzard, but it's a 50/50 possibility of a rain to snow event - there isn't even an Amber warning!

The bbc news live reporters at gritting depots are equally cringeworthy!

The UK media irrational fear over a flake of snow is part of the problem here. Uncessecary scare mongering "artic cold to batter U.K." Whilst standing in front of England's green hills... pathetic!

yeah it looks like a lot of heavy snow will fall whilst the temp is around freezing. I think they have underestimated the snow depths

Yamkin is a legend.  But even he wouldn't be ramping this evening's event up.  Looks like a damp squib to me but plenty of other opportunities over the next couple of weeks by the looks of it!

Rain / 6.8C here

I'm here! Work in Crawley, live in Tilgate - cycling home around 6pm tonight so should be fun!

Interesting. I can see a spell of heavy snow for some towards the east of the region after dark. But, the troublesome disruptive type I think is unlikely due to saturated/warm ground. Unless it really comes down at 1-2" an hour rates, then it could stick.

So, here we are, and what will tomorrow bring us?....rain?....a bit of sleet? or simply a snowstorm of 'the day after tomorrow' proportions?
To find out, this thread is the place to be so pull up a chair, pour yourself a beer, top shelf spirit or maybe a pint of proper scrumpy and watch the drama unfold
For historical purposes the old thread (the snowless one) can be found at the following link but who cares about an old thread when we can ramp about snow in this one!
