Morning All. bright out now compared to some heavy cloud earlier. Was suprised by how cool it was this morning. Wasn't ready for the cold wait for the bus.

So, it may stay dry for rest of April eh? Well i reckon the rest of spring either has a lot of catching up to do with wet weather or we are in for a washout of a summer :shok:

Sums it up really.

South East Region, Kent and South London Area

Summary – March 2017 March was a dry month, with the Kent and South London Area receiving only 41% of the Long Term Average rainfall for the period. Despite two preceding months of near normal rainfall, the 9 month period since last July was still the fifth driest recorded for the area as a whole, and the driest ever in parts of North Kent. Monthly mean river flows were mostly below normal or notably low, soil moisture deficits rose above the Long Term Average everywhere, and the recharge season began to close. Groundwater levels were generally below normal and by the end of the month were levelling out or even starting to fall.

Probably rain all summer now.

Yes very dry in N Kent, I can confirm that, I have had to water for some time now my tender plants and new lawn. Even today very sunny, bit of a breeze on and off that dries everything out even more and temps locally 16c, the colder arctic plunges that we have repeatedly seen on the charts seem to be as far away as ever, probably end up another mild month in the SE at this rate.

Every day seems to be better than  the forecast at the moment. Must admit though, this lack of rain is already an issue. There seems to have been so little rain that the rainwater butt at my allotment is already empty. If there is hosepipe ban, I guess our water supply will be switched off (hopefully limited to watering cans only).

On to other things, this is happening opposite our flat. The swan is only 3 years old (I watched her hatch!) so it's only 50/50 if she is sat on eggs or just practicing. But it will be interesting to watch and wait and see!

Ensembles for our region looking even colder on the 06z, could be a wintry mess of sleet and wet snow for a while early next week.

Norfolk and Essex ensembles.

Well this week has been the same as last just not as hot. Sunshine everyday okay varying in amounts each day with a little cloud. But nothing like some made it out to be last week..

And this morning I've woken up in a little oasis with zero cloud. But can see the cloud bank out east and north

After a bone dry first 13 days of April at last a little bit of rain overnight - only 1.2 mm here, but my garden says thank you. And with a rather unsettled few days coming up. no doubt a few more mm's to come. But isn't it just typical that the unsettled weather waits for a Bank Holiday weekend to arrive. :nonono:

Same here in the Yorkshire Dales Malcolm. River levels seem low to me. I am frozen at the moment and just got the hang of using the log burner. Its so cold, I might go back to Austria for some warmth ! I think a trip to Spain beckons soon.

I wondered why the garden looked wet, I thought someone nice had been watering my garden over night.

It's already nearly November and my thoughts are on what the forthcoming winter will bring. My guess is that it will be a cold one.:D

Not a bad start here with plenty of blue sky and just the occasional patch of thin, high cloud turning things hazy. Currently 9C and breezy.

There's some differences in view on timing and extent of the light rain expected later. The BBC/Met Office going for rain impacting by 15.00 but Arpege going for later in the afternoon and more particularly this evening. But both agree, not much rain expected.

Then a cold few days with frost (certainly for rural areas) likely. Charts for mid week:

@carinthian Hi Paul - hope all's well and you're settling back into life in Blighty in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. No warmth in Austria this coming week!! A return of the -5C 850 hPa isotherm and plenty of snow about!  :)

Yes a lovely start to the day here with not much cloud and pleasant sunshine I am sure it was supposed to be cloudy with rain the last time I looked at the forecast but maybe it's the Jet Lag . I returned from Australia yesterday after staying with my wife's family for a couple of weeks we were fortunate with the weather which was great , whilst I was away I was surprised to see the southeast hit 26c on one of the days . Anyway hoping for some toasty weather to come and some rain during the nights as everything seems bone dry my garden had a long drink from the sprinklers yesterday, had their been much rain?.

Hi Malc, yes snow returning to the mountain tops but now a bit late to save a poor end to the ski season in Austria. Many hotels closing after next week  and some piste staff already gone home. Not sure what is like down south but frozen here up north this morning. 6c presently with rain showers poss some snow on the higher peaks. Log burner full on. Today stay in and watch the big match this afternoon. Going to book a sunshine break later to get warm! Keep well my friend.

The overnight front just clearing through here and the sun now breaking out. It should clear all the Region later this morning to give everyone some sunny spells.

58f46f1aedae0_CloudMon17April08_10.thumb.jpg.5fd81eaefaa67c671412147a6efdb021.jpg

As expected, a disappointing amount of rainfall yesterday - just 1.6 mm here, most of which fell late yesterday evening when a heavier burst came through. That coincided with a windy spell too, giving a gust of 22 mph. So over the last 48 hours (and the first 16 days of April) rainfall has totalled 2.8 mm for my location.

The East Anglian average rainfall for April is 45.3 mm, so way, way short at the moment. And with GFS suggesting a 'rinse and repeat' cycle of High pressure to the west of the UK giving a series of cold northerly blasts, little sign of active Atlantic fronts coming through to make up the shortfall.
