There appears to be a healthy band of showers out in the North Sea drifting towards Norfolk, hope it makes it this far West across the region as snow. Currently heavy sleet but we may get lucky

Had some snow at home early this afternoon but it didn't settle.  So, I decided to take a drive up to the North Downs and took some photos near Caterham.  Not a bad covering and kind of got my snow fix!

Was literally 5 mins up the other end of my road and it was snowing quite moderately. Plus a decent dusting. Can back to mine and it's a few flakes and wet. Crazy how even just the slightest elevation here makes a difference

Why? Its a total non event, like the lads in the yorky thread say, last decent event march 2013, utterly pathetic climate we got cheese at least you get hot weather in summer there - we just get a continuous autumn..

I remember reading a letter by F E Lumb in Weather about the”snowless easterlies of March 1987 and I think it explains why the cold spell has not been quite as expected by many of us.The anticyclonic inversion has been at 850 mb.Low cloud formed over the North sea and was trapped by the inversion limiting any instability. More importantly the gain of heat and water vapour from the North Sea was distributed by convection and turbulence through a shallow restricted layer. This made the warming and moistening more efficient. Result gloom drizzle high RH and temperatures just around or above freezing.

In jan 87 deep cold air invaded England . Deeper convection occurred and the heating and moistening was distributed through a greater depth of the atmosphere and the rise in temperatures and due point was much less resulting in a memorable cold spell.

There must be a fair bit of snow up on higher ground on the moors though I would of thought?

0.0c and continuous snow, seems like we have about 2cm now after a small thaw mid-afternoon.
