Nice trough feature for Saturday hmmm spanning England. Should pep up the showers & increase the chance of more general precipitation...

12z out. Unfortunately that hole in Saturdays PPN just wants to get bigger over the SE.:( Was thinking best place might be up towards Buxton, might go for a drive up that way.

That PPN looks like it wants to flirt with my area but it's bound to change anyway.

what a waste of an easterly.  we wait all winter to finally get one and when we do, it gives us nothing but cold and grey.  I'm sure easterlies always used to be a certain guarantee of intense cold and snowy weather or it seemed to be.  Our weather is falling apart these days.  We can't even get decent summers either, just constant Autumn.

I Like your post, it is so true, Easterlies always gave snow in February especially in the south east.

Surely climate change or Global warming call it what you like is totally to blame.

Latest BBC London news weather with Helen willets:

Tonight: "Light wintry showers moving in, don't be surprised to see a CM here and there"

Tomorrow: "Wintry showers especially in morning and feeling colder"

Friday night: "A real chance of seeing more snow moving in"

"we have something more organised coming in off the North Sea spreading across the region"

Saturday:

"A CM or 2 especially over the chilterns, areas to east turning back to rain"

Probably the most positive TV forecast I've seen during this dire cold spell

Light dusting from the past hour on cars and roofs, isn't even forecasted to start for another ten minutes.. I feel like I'm going to be in a hot spot for a cm or two

Its been jolly raw in Seaford today, and so dull. But very little wind.

Just seen the latest local forecast for the south east, things will be less cold Saturday and Sunday as the wind backs to the south east. With sea temps at or around 9C. now that should bring temps back up. Hopefully a breeze may just break this dull low grey cloud.

Good Health to you all and have a nice weekend.

Has anyone noticed a couple of showers developing in the Thames estuary? Maybe we will see a few surprises later if these expand.

Yes I noticed them too. Showers really picking up also North of the Norfolk Coast and towards the Wash too, seems to be a straight easterly now.

My predictions for the forthcoming snow: depths by midday Saturday

Sweetspot - east Kent Downs north of Folkestone/Dover - up to 10 cms in areas 150m +

0-50 metres SE generally 0-3 cms.

50-150 m east Kent 2- 7 cms

SWW to follow from Met O around midday tomorrow.

Whether Idle.

Like I said radar has been breaking all day and isn't showing the precip actually over north Norfolk, we've been getting near constant light snow for two hours now.. if these get heavier it could amount to a small accumulation and some local disruption.. correct me if I'm wrong but meto haven't put a warning out for this but did last time with it being more way more marginal then now?

Living on a hill I'm noticing how icy it's getting underfoot now..

if it settles now it'll settle onto ice which will make it more dangerous then first meets the eye

and if it doesn't the ice will just get worse..

Yes. It's rain a little bit of sleet now and then. Dire.
