Temp now up to 2.6c and fog slowly clearing, very grim day and looking worse for tomorrow with a high of 1.0c.

Took my electric and gas meter readings yesterday and sent them in for the next bill, consumption well up on last winter.

Go out thinking it's just damp from the FOG and omg, it's so icy. And when I say FOG, I mean the stuff I can remember rolling off the sea when I was living near the coast. Real, almost can't see your hand kind of fog. Couldn't see the school from the top of the road. people slipping all over the place.

Nasty as...

Test for your new boots?

So in terms of cold surface temperatures and frost, is this not a rather notable spell for the south easterly contingent?

Probably the coldest in terms of penetrating frosts since 2010. Parts of the Kentish marshes are frozen solid with 4" ice, enough to walk on.

Imo a noteable cold spell, not just for the average temp but also for its lack of any appreciable rain/snowfall.

Anyway all change at the weekend now as the models move away from height rises around Iceland and undercutting lows and more towards an Mid Atlantic based air flow.

Well dew points must be well up.

Started freezing early last night, woke up to misty foggy stuff all soaking wet.

Temps around 2c, cold raw day, so much different to yesterday.
One good point no ice anywhere.

Apart from local lakes, friend went to go fishing and didnt realize how frozen the lakes were lol..

Appalling weather conditions today, fog and sheet ice covering most surfaces it can find.

Strangely, I don't think we had any here, despite being in the same county and further inland.

I swear cars need to be inbuilt with a sensor that tells you when fog lights are appropriate. I have had my corneas burnt out by so many drivers driving around with unnecessary fog lights on.

Most cars do.. It's called the "driver common sense sensor" unfortunately not all cars have such a thing. And not just when it comes to fog lights

Yes, agree, but only notable for minima on average (in my location). Even then, no particularly low minima, just consistently low.

Wrt the month of January, current aggregate of minima over the 25 days of this month so far for my weather station is +0.8, meaning that the average minimum so far is +0.032.  I believe that if that were to stay that way, it would be the lowest I've recorded for January in my current location.  Although I think it's likely to rise slightly before the end of the month, I think it's unlikely to reach +1C as that would need average minima of +5 between now and the end of the month, which is unlikely.

What a grey, raw, miserable damp day! As others have reported, with a sharp overnight frost then a fine drizzle this morning the black ice over paths and pavements this morning was lethal. Looking like a max of 2.5C here today. The breeze has just starting to move small branches.

I suppose we shouldn't grumble too much - we've enjoyed lots of sunshine recently - it's just our turn to be stuck under the grey stuff today.

Ah, the grippy ones!

Anyway, it's been gloomy and foggy here all day, but worse, even her 4-5 miles frrom Norwich, has been the pollution - you can smell it in the air, and, as someone's who's still recovering from a cold, it's given me a tickly cough.

Quite impressed by this cold spell- on my drive to/ from work in Borough Green there is about a 1/4 mile on the highest point between Top end of Meopham and Wrotham Hill which still has patches of snow in a field from 12th January! I wonder when was the last time that this occurred! Dec 2010? Fingers crossed for some snow grains and a light dusting would be welcome

A very gloomy day here after the thick fog lifted this morning. A slight breeze from the SE and current temperature is a chilly 3C.

Just drizzle here, damp. Anyone seen any ice pelets/flakes yet this evening? Tonight will probably be our last chance for a sprinkle of white to show up for some time I would think, models looking very poor again
