Only problem with Freezing fog is all side roads and pavements are like skating rings.
Did not even to the car and fell over and I knew it was icy, saw at least 6 other people fall over in a short time.

Scratch my last comment another bank of fog has come over since, looks like it will be one of those on off days for fog.

Hopefully the 'stormier start to Feb' hinted at by the GFS will come off. My local reservoir is nearer to mid-summer water levels than Winter. We need the Winter rains to keep us going for the Summer.

Never seen the river dour so low, it looks like a wide stream rather than a river.

There's neither fog nor frost up here, this morning, just a layer of Ac. It's as boring as fook!

Well with temperatures around freezing and cloud cover 6 days of frost starts to melt in central Reading.

Shame if it where sunny with the same temp it would not melt in the shade but with the clouds it does.

Anyone know why?

Fog has more or less cleared again now, wonder if it comes back again before night fall.

Hello. It will be your dew point I suspect. The cloud is a indicator of additional moisture in the air and if your dew point goes above zero then the frost will disappear.

Very cold here at just 1C but with the cloud all the frost has melted away, no sun today by the looks of it.

It's because the surface temperature is warmer than the ambient air temperature.
My air temperature is currently 0.4°C. However, the grass temperature is nearly 9°C

Probably due to heat beneath the surface trying to radiate out.

A very wintry looking morning splendid winter weather a fair bit unusual round these parts being fairly close proximity to central London where air frosts are a challenge. Sure been a cold very frosty period most frosts on the trot since January/March 2013 surely?

Bit of frost, bit of ice, bit of fog. Temps averaging around -4c by night and +3c by day over the past week.

Nice to walk the dogs on frozen ground and not battle through s**t loads of mud and water.

Flying to Montreal tomorrow for 16 days, time to experience some proper cold.

Canada gone through a warm up past week, so I'll be landing in fairly mild weather tomorrow morning (Canada version) highs of -1c, however this week looking pretty snowy. Next week business as usual = -14c by day and -20c by night!

Cant wait!

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
