I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised; even the cars are struggling for traction!

Looked great here, but nothing settled, the flakes were huge (so must have been very wet), easily getting up to the size of the palm of your hand and so intense, but still couldnt get a hold on any kind of surface.

So if next week comes off are we looking at much more snow potential or is it just cold and dry?

Stopped her now and that will be our lot for this spell.

This mornings snow must have been more marginal than last nights as it was actually heavier but has just left everywhere soaking wet!

hopefully we don't have to wait too long for our next shot.

If next weeks cold arrives it will be more from the East this will be a dryer air if you want snow then you need air from the north East.

Well, according to Met O

Regional forecast for London & South East England

Snow showers clearing southwards. Staying very cold in strong winds.

Today:

Cloudy with periods of sleet or snow, especially further east for a time mid-morning. From late morning conditions will improve to sunny spells as the sleet clears southwards. Staying cold and windy with gales along the Kent coast. Maximum Temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Most parts dry and clear with a sharp frost as winds ease inland. After midnight cloud is likely to increase a little, perhaps with further light wintry showers. Minimum Temperature -3 °C.

Saturday:

A cold day with some brighter spells especially in the west. Most parts dry though an isolated wintry shower may affect Kent, where it will remain quite breezy. Maximum Temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

A change to milder conditions is expected on Sunday and Monday, but generally cloudy with periods of rain. A return to brighter, much colder conditions possible on Tuesday.

Thanks. I guess if we get a low pressure under the high we might be able to get snow that way. Or some showers coming in off the north sea as sea effect. Hmmmm interesting times. 1000 times better than last year.

Looks to be coming to an end here now, although a spell of snow for almost 2 hours it's not really done too much to what was left from last night....nice to see though :)

although it is still snowing lightly there is nothing on the ground at all so I suppose trying to be positive about this, at least we are spared the trauma of watching it thaw. Still, would have liked to see the amount some of you have experienced.

And it's stopped. Still a few cms on the ground is more than I've seen in years.

Well, if that is our lot for winter then it has already been the best since 2013, not that it's saying much, so no complaints really.

If a cm or two of slush is the best we can manage in winter nowadays, then we are just going to have to make the best of it.....or move!.....

As said nice to see some snow fall as we've had diddly squat over the last 3 winters but has to be said a bit of a slush fest this morning and snow on fields/lawn is getting slushier by the hour.

Look forward to the time when we have decent uppers of the continent, bone drying wind followed by convective flurries of snow slowly getting heavier from a proper Scandinavian high pressure (about time we had another one).
