#Canterbury# still raining but temp dropping, can see it turning 'soon'....saw snow (wintry showers/sleet) falling in Ashford.
Being a more northerly wind may be dragging some warmer air off the sea onto the North Kent coast. Thoughts?

Ditto Hastings ! Quick question as I only moved here in August, when was the last time it snowed in Hastings or Bexhill and has it ever settled ?

Last snowed here in 2013 if I remember but not very much.

Last big snow was in 2010 when the beach was even covered in snow and lasted for 7 days !

It was November 30th 2010 I think - that's etched on my memory! That was an interesting night!

Shoot wrong year. I remember that so clearly.  I was going to send my husband out to rescue her!

Looks like the system is moving through pretty fast though

I just thought that. Be done in less than an hour here!

I'm surprised at this - I thought the cold air would turn the back edge into snow? How come places on the south coast are getting pasted, yet 150 miles further north here it's just heavy rain??!

I thought this aswell.. biggleswade.. Its rained and rained and finally half an hour ago it went to light patchy snow. and it hasnt even attempted to settle onto anything

Very surprised how quick the transition was.Picked my daughter up from netball at 4.30 and pouring with rain.Got home and checked this forum at 5 and some said it was snowing in Croydon so i looked out the window and boom!!.Everything was covered by 5,15 and snow forecast here till 9pm.If it continues at this intensity i reckon we could get 5-7cm here and maybe a top up tomorrow morning :):cold:

Hooray, it did finally turn here - I'm sure it was 10 mins later than it ought to have been though...

Heavy snow for a little while now, and it's already busily turning even the wettest surfaces white.

Looks like a fair bit to come for us down here as well, with the energy apparently beginning to concentrate nicely in the southeastern corner. Maybe another 2 hours of heavy stuff if we're lucky?

"Too wet to settle" is a myth as long as air temps are low enough (or something)...I forget what!

Bedfordshire seeing lots of rain and only a bit of snow was due to the cold airmass not reaching you until very late.

Cold air moves quicker than warm air, so the cold air is undercutting/catching up with the rain band in places like Kent etc, plus a bit of help from it being later in the day too ofc :)

Based on reports, might have to adjust that expectation of 2 hours heavy snow. Maybe an hour, and another hour as it dwindles.

Heavy snow Sittingbourne - Settling on ALL surfaces, so much for "snow can't set on wet ground" this is incredible, way more then expected, 1-2cm on cars and roads.

Just wondering why the back end is sleet rain, I know it's the heaviness helping with the fast transition once things are right, but surely it should be cold enough once the cold has undercut to keep it as snow on the back end. Is it that the northerly isn't as cold as it was thought to be.

Is it my imagination or is the system stalling or least slowing down? :yahoo:

Heavy stuff gone now - a partial covering on some surfaces.  At 20m elevation, I am going to struggle.  Folks over 75m are quids in!

Sleety drizzle now.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
