With such wet ground, are gritters actually useful?

Nope. Pointless waste of tax payers money.

At the moment, I doubt it!

Not really it will all get washed away with the rain, but I suppose it looks good to the public that the council are doing something even though wasting money down the drain, but then they are good at that.

Temp only dropping slowly and is 5.2 degrees and a miserable rainy afternoon-so dark already today.Hope the transition occurs but not overly confident i will get much lying snow from this belt.I think places like Biggin Hill,Knockholt,Halsted etc that have elevation will get a decent covering.Am more confident the band moving South early tomorrow morning will give us a covering between 6-9am.Fingers crossed!!

Temp and dew point falling nicely now (4.9c and 3.8c respectively, not bad considering my location).

The NW radar is showing the change a lot faster than I expected. I'd give it maybe an hour until I start seeing sleet here.

Pressure charts starting to look interesting especially vs forecast. What's that feature developing in the North Sea? LP looks to have developed very much more south.

NO ..I have been an old road worker, and grit is useless in wet conditions...wasting our council tax money..save it for later next week.

If it does snow it will have a job settling on wet ground....colder air will dry out the roads ..then grit

is it possible to see this stall a bit and pivot , radar predication (home and dry)  looks like the is begins to twist of the coast of kent.

The rain/sleet/snow band looks like it starts to rotate  off the coast of kent in later frames on radar , wonder if we get a surprise feature form ????

I agree. MetO app on phone has consistently pointed to at least two hours heavy snow for Rochester with start time varying between 6pm and 7pm

Let's hope that Rochester gets a good dumping VP! :D

Now down to 4.7c here, pace of temperature drop seems to be quickening. No signs of sleet or snow yet.

Doubt if we will get any snow here as we are on the coast.

Sleet at best imo

Gritters have NO chance this eve

rain to snow means the rain washes away the grit & when it snows theres not enough time to recover anything other than major roads = Chaos

looking out the window here in Eltham pondering the journey home @615 secretly hoping to get stuck

if not a snow drive to bluebell hill !
