Late report, but we had light snow for a few hours yesterday morning. Was settling on some surfaces for a while (parts of cars, roofs, grass and the ground in a few places probably thanks to clear spells and frost the night before). However a nearby hill (East Hill) that reaches 247m had a much better small covering of around 1cm or so as it was around freezing.

Not especially amazing but nice to see and better than nothing.

Max was only 2.8C at home yesterday, today we've had surprise sunshine since 12pm which is better than the grey skies. Max so far 5.3C.

Lovely!

Surely after so many "Will it, won't it" moments the change in the season is due. There will of course be those that say March can still bring some surprises, don't disagree but look back over the last three months for surprises.....seen many? To answer your question I say "YUP"..

Oh heck the easterly wind is set in now for 3 days. Hitting right against the daughters window. Making a right racket. Could be a long 3 nights

But an interesting weather set up currently not often we get such a strong wind from the east.

Nothing going on here. Higher up always the chance!

We were predicted heavy rain but most of it has kept south and West of here. Happy with that as it will keep the windows from rattling.

If though the conditions were better suited to snow I'd be singing blue murder that the prize has missed us..again.

The temperature's much higher now than it was during the day. Max during daylight hours was 3.9°C and now it's 6.2°C. Quite windy now as well.

OK, I know it's not the end of winter (although it may well feel like spring later this week). I just want to say that personally its not been too bad a winter. I would love a repeat of Dec 2010, or Jan 2013 etc etc but at least I have seen snow falling on four days (in two spells) and had settled snow (ok not much, but def there) on two mornings. We have also had a lot of epic frosts (down to - 8 deg C) which has meant a lot of car scrapping. I am a long time resident of west wilts and I remember many years pre internet watching the farming forecast, desperate for a hint of snow. My recollection is probably shaky but in the years I recall with some accuracy, from 1985 onwards, I would say a typical wilts winter was not that snowy. I think too many people have unrealistic expectations and tbh false memories if they think winters now are 'modern' or some such. Surely the recent colder ones (2008-2013) should knock that one on the head?

And now the skies cleared again and the temperatures quickly risen to 10.4°C. Still feels cold in the breeze though.

From winter to spring in less than 24 hours. Unbroken sunshine all day and a max of 11.7c . Extremely gusty SE wind and rapid drying of washing, more of this please!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
