Rain only started here an hour ago. Will be novel walking tomorrow in the mud. I guess that's goodnight Vienna for cold for a bit then. I know I spouted yesterday you never know what will happen in 7 days but it has the unscientific feel of a long period of wet weather now.

To be honest it is long overdue.

Maybe this year will be a year of wildcards. Actually having wintry weather (though not wintry enough) in January, the core winter month, then a wet windy February, the most benign month of the winter and often the year.

Cant say I'm a fan of what's to come. Despite what people say, it's not that overdue. Not long ago we had flooding in November, have had sporadic sufficient rainfall totals throughout December and January, and we are far from water problems just yet.

Maybe time to take a break from the models and come back in a few days when they've got a grip. I will then be looking for winter opportunities for the rest of Feb. Only in March will my attention turn to Atlantic driven weather and the variety that the month often brings.

How much rain have you had in the nearly 10 weeks since the exceptionally wet weekend of 18th-20th November Mike?

Until late pm yesterday I had measured just 64mm in nigh on 10 weeks of late Autumn/Winter.

Looking at the radar there's heavy rain/sleet/snow showers over Wales and Dartmoor, all heading NE. Hope the rest of the mild spell is like this..!

Piddling down again! Almost 8mm for the day. Tomorrow's persistent rainfall is likely to take me over the regional average.

Only 1.6mm here. Might get a bit more if the showers to the west make it here before midnight.

No one's up late for the small possibility of a short shower of sleet?

Raining.

Temp: 8.9°C - Hum: 95% - Dew: 8.1°C - Rain: 1.8mm - Bar: 1012.06hPa - Wind: S ~ SSW @ 8mph.

I decided to recalculate the MetO averages for temp/rainfall/sunshine, to add to my historic graphs. I wasn't happy with them, due to a few reasons. I couldn't use Swanage' averages, because the low/high temps tend to be quite different to here, the same goes for Bournemouth.
Bournemouth usually gets higher temps in the Summer and lower temps in Winter compared to here, but I get higher and lower temps than Swanage. I was using the regional averages for the South, but they were somewhat not representative of conditions here, either, the same with using the South West and South Wales. So, what I decided to do, was list both Bournemouth and Swanage' averages and then take the average of those two, to create a derived average for my location, seeing as i'm in between Swanage and Bournemouth - it worked quite well.

Did anyone else notice a weird coloured sky earlier? About an hour ago? It's been pouring all afternoon and the sky cane over all yellow earlier despite thick cloud and rain - it wasn't just me who noticed, my daughter came downstairs and commented on it too
