The pessimist in me says this will be another failed winter, but it feels like something is brewing.  There is "considerable uncertainty" from the MetO in the medium to long range, plus talks of SSW.  If we're scraping the barrel of positivity.... nobody has a clue what will happen in the last week of Jan and beyond.

I think February will deliver the goods..

You should be a motivational speaker, I'm back on board Midnight !!:drunk:

i agree Feb could be a month to remember. I have a beer gut feeling!

February seems to be the month to deliver snow in this part of Dorset. 2009 and 2015  for sure, can't remember the years in between - must have been drunk?!

again, I remember my in my childhood most of the snowiest winters have come around in the latter parts of Jan and first half of February.

not saying it's gonna happen this year but if it does then there is no better time to lock that cold in then then.

if not then it's trips to Dartmoor when cornwall stays green.

haha I'm the same :drunk: Memory is pretty bad but I remember February as a good month for snow. I also remember a random snowy spell in November a good while back. We did particularly well in the south west I believe.

Late night sledging with the snow still falling... ah good times.

Edit: Think it must've been 2005, just found this on wiki: "As two cold fronts pushed eastwards on the 24th, squally showers turned to sleet and snow across East Anglia, Wales and Southwest England. Up to 30 cm of snow was reported in Devon and Cornwall on the 25th, with 2 metre drifts"

Not snow at the end of the week but some colder air about. Have a run of 3 days where temperatures are progged not to get above 4c.

As others alluded to I reckon mid March is the limit for a decent snow fall. But it's hard to believe it is possible looking at the charts then again I have to keep looking at the date being that it's only mid January!

Anyone know how many models the NW forecast takes into account. The 10 dayer has a feel like minimum of -11C here next Saturday. Never seen it that low before.

8.8c  and not pleasant out.

Looks like we might get some decent frosts this week. Presumably this front over us is going to back west at some point?

Yep looking that way, yes cold nights ahead shame it could of been so much better if the easterly synoptic had remained. Hey ho on we go.

I look at it like this!

First greece stole our easterly, now Spain and France, so on that northerly assumption, we are next !!:spiteful:

and what France are getting is a quite pants easterly, so I'll take the proper one in around 17 days time. :D

One thing I would say is that with what looks like a return to westerlies next week if that comes to pass then the UKMO again go top of the charts regarding the models.

Heavy drenching drizzle in Stroud all day, stopped me working on a landscaping job. No rain on the V4 radar as yet though!

Does it not show on the radar because the rain drops are too small?

Typical really...

Last Friday we were waiting for snow showing on the radar that didn't reach the ground.

Today, drizzle that doesn't appear on the radar is giving us a soaking... Rubbish

It depends on the resolution of the radar. The NW one for example, has a resolution of 500m, giving 4x more detail.
