Oh come on!

The event was never on, NAE 48hr high res suggested nothing but rain, GFS only hinted at sleet and  the Met agreed.

Today has been exactly as we should all know it would have been...a chilly NW'rly moving in with alot of cold rain.

HOWEVER....Its all a red herring !

Firstly, and excitingly, the showers tonight will be giving it big-guns across the whole SW; Keep an eye out, as some areas will have a nice few CMs by tomorrow morn.

Secondly, this pattern will continue over the next 48hrs... Check out the HGT 500-1000 maps. I can almost promise snow when they are below 522 hpa/mb.

Thirdly....next week: Cold cold cold from the East, with weather systems trying to form and push in = nice combo!

;)

Equilibrium restored. Enjoying some sleet and snow falling. The dog didn't enjoy it as much!!

The temperatures risen to 2.6°C but dewpoint has dropped to 0.8°C, which is the lowest it's been so far today, as the humidity's started falling.

Ha ha! Just snowed here for about 2 minutes. First snow in 4 years even if it is the lightest of dustings! Possibly some more to come...

Whereabouts in S Devon are you?

Hopefully, showers popping up everywhere now I think some parts of the SW will get some too.

Fingers crossed, I'm not holding out much hope here!

Seems to be the showers make it past the Welsh mountains then die a death around Cardiff and Newport!

Looks like the showers are coming to an end down here looking at the radar and the MO app. Been more sleet than snow but I'm claiming snow. Looking ahead that's it for now down here think the dp will rise tomorrow a bit. All eyes turn east but that looks like it might of run out of puff before it starts!

Mmmmm.............

The WRF NMM 12z has this Friday morning;

nmm-1-20-0.png

On this run it swings a little too much SE, into CS England & SE England, but a marginal correction westwards would bring more of the West Country into play.

Clutching at straws I know, but you are all telling me to be more positive.  I'm trying, I really am.

The higher resolution 5km NMM run is less optimistic, narrowing the band so it misses here by the usual 5 miles:

Hopefully, the 18z will shift the band further west. Annoyingly, the even higher resolution 2km NMM seems to have stopped working on 8th Jan.

Still a possibility of some shower activity over the moor between 12 and 3 in the morn.

Shower activity pepping up in SE Wales, looks good for West Country but maybe just to far south for Swindon if they make it this far

On the plus side, it won't be snowing in the south east for much longer :p
