Mmmm what a change in the forecast for here. Heavy snow replaced with sleet and perhaps light snow. Hopefully back to where it was come morning.

The 0z GFS also offering the prospect of a scattering of West Country light snow flurries during the early hours of Friday;

Along with a possible "chain" later in the day too;

All in all, various modelling offers some form of snow flurry/light snow shower activity over the next 60hrs or so, after tomorrow's predominantly wet weather has shifted SE.

Temperature is 3.2c which is cooler than expected... Baby steps :D

First thing I did was tentatively open my met offic app while still laying in bed in dark.... phew snow is still there for hours :rofl:

Phew. The snow is back on the app. First hurdle out the way. So the day has arrived! At last. Good luck everyone!

Cloudy at the moment and as yet no rain. Temp 7C and a westerly breeze.

Still some doubt about the snow in the SW but looks increasingly likely it will be a rain event with the possible exception of the moors.

Half hour ago Swindon was only down for 2 hours of heavy snow on the BBC website, similar to local BBC weather just now, however the BBC website now has us down for this - maybe the front will hang around a little longer.

Not the best of set ups for south coast, very different to the awesome event Jan 2010. The wind that supplies the fuel is the very thing that will hurry it through. Blink and we may miss it. Still, subtle changes could make a significant difference.

Already sleet on higher ground, was this not meant to start as rain?

That display is only indicative, based on conditions, i.e. local temperature & precipitation it "suggests" that the precip will be of a certain type, there's no guarantee it actually is of that type. Unless of course you are under it and it is of that type of precipitation,. In which case the display is correct..

If you see what I mean :)

So precip type radars are useless is what your saying :shok:

Karlos, nay you place words into my mouth:whistling:.  After all I've seen sleet this year and the radar merely suggested rainfall, based upon the conditions present. It is "indicative".

I only say this because I've been caught by it before, so when people ask me I stay on the careful side of what it might happen in the form of precipitation. (After all we know it's a damn fine line between the liquid & the solid!)

Morning all, currently light rain here.

BBC have me down as rain all day bar an hour of heavy snow at 5pm. Met have me as rain until 4pm then 3-4 hours of heavy snow. We will shall see. I've found a straw to wave at the sky in a menacing manner...BBC say it should currently be 5c, Met say 4c, actual temperature is 2.7c with sub zero dew points. So, if they're off by that margin now they may well be later too, or being a little colder than anticipated the temps may drop sooner than expected, turning the rain to snow a little earlier too.

Yes, I know, it's female logic at work but it's my straw and I'll clutch it tightly whilst crossing fingers and toes. Anyone spots a dotty old woman hobbling and waving small, hollow things at the sky whilst chanting a charm, don't worry it's only me.

Isn't it something about solid rain drops reflect radar better than snowflakes. Therefore radar images can't show falling snow quite so well?

Crikey all these years I've put faith in these! I guess what could be of use is webcams (wunderground have some) , they don't lie! Anyone know a link or website to motorway cameras that could be another way to track it.
