I've been posting model thoughts and basic meteorology concepts on an unrelated forum I frequent of recent, and a member from Leeds asked me something earlier - I'm going to quote his original query and the extra information he provided:

Here's an odd one for you - isolated house on the windy side of a North facing ridge 1°C; down towards the centre of Leeds in the middle of houses -1°C. Never been that way round before.

Mid week - Weds maybe? Not much sleep this week so I'm having trouble pinning it down, it was on the day when below 0 temperatures were forecasted whichever day that was. It was -2°C further towards the Pennines according to the lads at work.

My thoughts are possibly an inversion or cold sitting in shelter in Leeds while warmer air was mixing-out the cold in the more exposed location of his house, but I'd expect the UHI effect would have cancelled it out.  Any thoughts?

Cheers.
