Sun out again this morning and its warm. 8c in the back garden and freezing level well out of reach of our ski -ing terrain. Pistes will suffer today with melting takings its toll on the limited runs.  We are just about hanging on.

Nice surprise to wake up to see fresh snow falling this morning. Much colder today with sub zero temps.

Nice picture Paul, good news for much of the Alps. The anomaly charts all show some WNW type flow, at times, NW upper flow for the Alps from early January. How long that will last beyond their time scale 14 days or so I do not know. At least with the upper ridge west and the upper trough down into Europe it gives most places in the Alps a decent shot of snow in that period. Not sure about the Italian resorts though?

Hi John, just in time. The main influx of holiday makers don't really start to arrive for another week yet, so time to build up the runs with some decent snowfall and lower temps starting now. When you off to Wengen ?

 cheers

18 Jan (Wed until 25th), not as long this year as I am not sure about skiing. I am hoping I can but anno domini is taking its toll on all kinds of things.

cheers

Ok John. You can still enjoy the wonderful scenery of the mountains in wintertime and off course the hospitality of your second home hotel . cheers P.

Some charts showing today's welcome snowfall. As forecast from snow-forecast.com

Snowfall 28 Dec 7am.JPGSnowfall 28 Dec.JPGSnowfall 28 Dec 7pm.JPG

left to right - expected snowfalls in 6hrs to 7am, 1pm and 7pm (All Today CET)

Good chart that Julian. Amazing the difference in snow accumulation with height. Our neighbouring resort of Obertauren at 1850 m has 10cm of fresh snow this morning and another 200 m up the mountain has 20cm. All welcome to see the return of snow and as JH says the Upper flow for the Alps is NW for the next 10 t0 15 days or so , that can only mean much more snowfall  for many resorts to get the season under way.
