Didn't enter all of last years C.E.T month's so this will be my early new years resolution to enter every month next year and be in the top 10 

So to kick it off i think a below average month ahead helped by high pressure and cold nights especially with the possibilty of an extended cold spell...

The linear trend over the last 50 years is +1.35C per century. Following this trend gives a January CET of 4.7C.
The linear trend over the last 30 years is +0.90C per century. Following this trend gives a January CET of 4.8C.

The last 2 years have each set a record for the warmest 30 year average January, at 4.57C and 4.63C. Anything greater than 0.8C this year will result in a 3rd consecutive record.

Looking at the models about a week ago, you would probably be fooled into thinking January wouldn't start off all that cold (although I guess there were hints from one or two people of a chilly North-Westerly flow to establish). 

Don't know what to think really, just hope the models aren't doing that usual 'let's play tricks on the cold weather fans and let them believe The Polar Express is coming to the UK' and then suddenly snatch the dream from us!

My guess: 3*C! That train better come...

While I would love it to be cold and snowy, and the charts are showing a cold beginning,  + Meto & others are saying below average through out Jan, I feel we are being led up the garden path again. So on that basis I will go for......
