Gawd it is April, spring and yet a fair number are still hankering after something cold. I can't wait to get 20C and be able to sit in the garden and feel pleasantly warm. Much better than dashing out to the bin or giving the fish a quick feed. Winter is fine in winter but NOT from now on. I'll accept a 36-48 hour cold northerly but please no more damn winds from off the N Sea.

John...

Interested in your fish.. I assume you mean outside?.

I have just started feeding mine since the cold moved away at the weekend.

They seem quite hungry.

I am watching for another cold spell, as to feed them when the temp is below 10C  (when they will accept it!) is considered to be not good for them.

This year they have not been fed since early November. It is the longest period they  have been without being fed.

They still seem very healthy.  (7 quite large Koi, together with  assorted Rudd, Blue and Golden Orfe, a well as the kids goldfish and Shubunkins (from indoor tanks!)  and Tench (blue and golden). I used to have dace but I think they have all died off now!

I have them in 3 interconnecting ponds with continuous circulation via a home made pond filter (an old cast iron bath!) , and a lot of them are over 20 years old, with the real old-timers over 30 now.  I have to keep them 'netted' because the Herons are rife around here.

Might not be very warm here yet but what a change it makes to wake up and see blue skies and the sun streaming in. I feel like I’m betraying my winter loving heart

A little bit of spring warmth would be most welcome now and well overdue ?

Next week doesnt look too good for us folk in the east but tbf if its fairly dry i couldnt care less about the temps. Anything to dry up the waterlogged ground is fine by me. The grass could do with a cut.

Tided for you !

I lived through it to - never had a winter better since! :good:

We'll have to agree to disagree.  Winter '63 was OK at the beginning but not when it lasted until to the last week of April.  In my area the main snowfall thawed at the end of February but we then endured continual cold weather with wintry showers through March and April. Much like this year up to now.  I'm cheesed off with the current 5-month long winter.  A lot of us would prefer to see all four seasons of the correct length back in their rightful positions.

Note my emphasis - I lived in Wirral at that time.

Well I'm hopeful any cloud will burn back during the morning as often happens during such spells. This time of year can feel very California-esque with gloomy mornings followed by sunny afternoons.

The ignore function should help, it does for me! Same every year.......

pair of rampers. only the other day Frosty was posting warm charts talking about it being better than unseasonable cold. problem is, he was ramping those cold charts only a few days before...

Plus, ignore won't work if I don't sign in first.

Even if you do use the ignore feature quoted posts still show regardless

Maybe best you either do what other coldies do and go into hibernation until later in the year or just avoid that thread

wouldn't give you the satisfaction. Also, the netweather GEFS 12z for lancashire doesn't show a sniff of a 20.

Thats not the point, the 20c will come soon,  only weeks away if that , then the high twenties are possible, as it does most years ,  its showing mild , mild  and more mild ,  we are now going into the warm half of the year,

yes there could still be chilly days ahead , possibly high single digits days as its still only April but that will become less and less likely ,  mid teens and high teens look the form horse now , and not before time ,  the green shoots and blossoms of spring are ready to burst through :yahoo:

The theme of the medium term anomalies appears to be a strengthening N. Russian vortex and some retrogression of the very resilient European ridge and Atlantic trough. Quite good news I feel this is somewhere near the money
