best take a screenshot as its not often you'll see me wanting milder conditions. But I fully agree with you. Unfortunately as you likely already know, the models are trending colder. Should keep the baying mob happy.

As for the elderly, my grandparents bedroom heater stopped working a few days before the really cold air arrived, despite phoning daily, the council are in no rush to fix it. Just imagine people who cannot heat their homes. I saw an elderly lady on tonight's news that relied on a charity for supplies and money for heating. Had that charity not been there, who knows what would happen.

I absolutely deplore extremes at either side of the spectrum, both heat and cold. It does nobody any good bar those that like to get their jollies from weather porn.

The EPS ens are not that bad, certainly not a return to anywhere near the cold of this week (An entirely different pattern) and in the ext period rising to average. Roll on Spring.

I think this really the point. A return to 'warm' is not going to happen overnight so a slow return to average  is the percentage play. As with the GEFS

What to? Chilly Man? Slush Man lol. My idea of cold is nothing near what we are suffering right now. As I stated on my profile, my preferred temps in winter are 6-10 i.e average conditions.

two belts of snow moving approximately northwards.

this is the most action we've had so far but it's difficult to tell how much is being added because the wind is swirling it around quite a lot. I'd call this a grade 2 blizzard out of 5.

Right, it is "old chestnut time"! The great Oxfordshire Snow Deflector is being deployed as I type!

Lots of local schools are closing early today although by the looks of the radar it seems to me to be a somewhat rash decision. Would love to be proved wrong of course but all the precip seems to be veering NW. A snow day without any snow would be a shame for the kids!

Still, enjoying this interesting weather regardless although the frozen bathroom tap is a bit of a ball ache!

I retract my above statement! Just driven back from work and the roads are becoming treacherous. Fairly light snow but it is starting to have an impact! About 3cm i reckon.

morning all, well what a brutal week it has been weather wise, a week to remember for pretty much the whole country, but from a imby perspective things are begining to improve, temp up to 1.7c which is nearly 3c above metoffice forecast, slow thaw is kicking in, a dusting of snow is forecast for later but not buying into that as we were due 4 hours of heavy snow last night and got none, lol

Extremely poor here from this 'epic spell of weather', managed a 2" fall Tues am which was pretty much all gone by lunchtime and that was it really.

If that could shunt itself up to about Manchester/Preston it'd probably be welcomed for many given how poor snow wise this spell has been for us.

 I can’t even begin to imagine how severe Feb 1947 must have been. Snow drifts over 20 foot high(6-7 metres). Up to the roof of a house with lying snow around 1metre level(waist high or a bit more)

very bad, I slipped and cricked my neck. freezing put down a coating of ice, then more snow. Freezing rain, this is where u walk on snow, the apparent bare patches of pavement are skating rinks (western super mare)

There's always one isn't there! Just as bad as all those who were wetting themselves last week as the cold spell approached, only for them to turn around midweek and say, "I've had my snow fix now, roll on spring"!

Personally, I'm ready for spring now. Looking for the first mid-teen temps, which are obviously no-where to be seen on the models at the moment! Need that Jet Stream to start heading north again.

Just posted this in the regional but thought I would post it here aswell.

Overall a pretty decent cold spell with temps never getting above freezing this week and many days of snow actually falling. Currently have a very decent covering here as photos from other members in Peterborough have shown. Only negative comments is I cannot help thinking to myself what if?

What if during Wednesday when the coldest upper temps, lowest thickness values were over the UK, the winds were a ENE,ly rather than the ESE,ly? All the snow that fell across Scotland/NE England would of hit here instead?

What if the cold spell occurred in Dec/Jan? even colder temps and more importantly the snowfall would of been much greater due to warmer N Sea SSTs.

So whilst a decent cold spell it still didn't match those E,lys I remember in the 1980s especially with regards to convective snowfall.
