Energy ejection

Model 'X' must have gone off on one...Model 'Y' is adopting its usual default mild outlook...Model 'Z' always underplays the resilience of Scandi HPs...?

It might not be as annoying if those who overuse the term when discussing model outputs used it correctly.  Usually, what they call a shortwave is actually a low in the base of a longwave trough or, at most, a secondary low.  AFAIK, if it has a closed circulation, it's a secondary low, not a shortwave.

My bug bear "Faux cold" has already been mentioned (what on earth is it by the way?)  so i nominate "Zonal"  especially as it seems to be used to describe anything that is not the desired cold nirvana.

Edit  -  And another "stick/stuck to it's guns" grrrrrrrrr....

Agreed on 'faux cold', which seems to refer to a cold stagnant surface airmass under high pressure, and zonal, which should be used to mean an east-west jet axis without significant meridonal zonality.  I'm afraid I've been guilty of the "sorry Mods" post in the past, so I'm not going to criticise those who do it now.  What gets me is the relentless optimism of cold fans in the Model thread.  This sounds uncharitable, but I just feel like sending them all a PM that says "Winters are mild now, there's nothing you can do about it - get used to it or do what I did - become a mild fan".

People posting 9-10 day charts and ignoring all output before then.

Especially at that time scale 99% of the time they never ever verify

look at recents gfs fl charts ,from bitter cold to now very mild.completely useless.
