It always has spells of showing a stonking feb / march though earlier in the season the CFS, and apart from one good dumping last march and 2013, there has been little in either month lately to get excited about

I've written a Christmas song. There is no association with Mariah's song.

I don't want a frost for Christmas
Yes the ground can often freeze
I'm not into double figures
Don't give me south-westerlies
All I want is a split flow
Scandi high and Euro Low
Can it be just so?
All I want for Christmas is...

Well Brass monkeys are happy. Sunnying themselves at the moment and nothing to scare them throughout the gfs run.

To me, this is the most dramatic December weather events of my lifetime are:

Dec 1981

And Dec 2010. The fabled Greenland High produced this, 6 years ago:

If only we could see 3 months of blocking over summer!!!

Here in the Calder Valley a good drought would be a tonic :)

Had myself a little nap this afternoon. Just woke up, came on here and everyone's predicting the weather for March.

How long was I asleep for?

Saturday soaker, been keeping an eye on this for NW Midlands, looks ugly washout for Xmas shoppers, what's new huh, as when rain comes though 'at least it will be mild' I'd rather rain at 11° than 2-3°

At this rate we are going to have to invent lawnmowers that can cut grass in the wet or replant lawns with grass sued to warmer climates.

ECM 12Z looks 'realistic' really wouldn't be surprised if it came off, zonal from 0 to 240, typical for December

I have lots of fresh grass coming up in front of the house from seed that was planted after landscaping after new electricity cables that were put down last month, its like spring here.

Looking at this evenings ECM I think that our only hope of a white Christmas is a decent blast from the North/Northwest, the cold that had established itself in Central Europe is moving away Eastwards at a fair clip on this run so no cold left should we ever get the fabled Scandi high, and that Euro/Scandi/Azores slug, whatever you want to call it needs to go asap.

fully expect during tomorrow the GFS to trend towards ECM, with zonal all the way, to rival Dec 2015 apart from first 5 days!

No surprise there then.

Maybe mild output should come with a trigger warning so the more sensitive types can retreat to their safe space. :pardon:

Just taken 5 days off from watching the models mainly through frustration, just returned and took one look at the 12z ECM and wished I taken 5 weeks off - same old same.

Yes normal Dec run really, mild and wet, Atlantic dominating, my guess for Xmas is broad westerly, mild south, average north, snow only on mountains of Scotland

typical chart nowadays for April, will likely see these becoming more frequent in April, used to see it in winter

Thats just the sort of chart that we will probably see in April or May, or June, sickening init!:wallbash:

One glimmer of hope. The Sun should be going spotless again tomorrow after a fair bit of activity the last couple of weeks. We should now be entering a prolonged spotless phase as we go into a 200 year grand minima. Will be interesting to see what effect this might have on the troposphere as we go towards mid month.

Dear Pub Run,

I understand why you felt the need to check in for a couple of weeks at the Priory, but, to be honest, you're just no fun anymore. We all used to love the old 18Z, sometimes you made us laugh, occasionally you made us cry, but mostly you lifted our spirits when we were on the cusp of despair. But now you've become all sober and serious, like your big brother the 12Z. Sorry, but you're just boring, with your permanent euro slug high and south westerly mush. You may be right, but we don't love you for it. You know, a couple of pints of Old Speckled Badger's Finger won't do you any harm of an evening. Promise. Go on, you know you want to.....

Sincerely,

YH.

Over the past 20 years in the UK, April has warmed up more than any other month, so I doubt it. It's definitely emerged as one of the more reliable months for settled, pleasant weather in recent years. April 2007, April 2011, April 2015 - all very sunny and dry.

In fact, this got me intrigued as to how much each month has warmed, so I figured it out for my local area. 1996-2015 versus 1981-2010.

April +0.8

January +0.7C

June +0.6C

October +0.6C

September +0.6C

November +0.5C

May +0.4C

August +0.3C

December +0.2C

February +0.2C

July +0.2C

March +0.1C

Like or loathe it, but the trend is warmer, in all months of the year.
