Do you have daughters? If so they must like Frozen (the movie), pretend to to them an enormous favor and go on winter sports and say you are just doing it it for them (like I did for my daughter ;)  )

The model output thread would be far better if the GFS was banned.

It is a truelly awful model.

6Z looked realistic, mild all the way, bit like GEM and ECM FI

GFS is good for watching the stratosphere and for t2m up up until 96h. It is also interesting to see what pops up at the 8-10 day mark, just for a run or two sometimes before it disappears again, only to reappear around 96h when the ecmwf had is straight in sight since 144h

Every time I look at this thread the last few years, you post in it all the time, you should change your forum username to 'MODEL MOAN AND RAMP THREAD I remember Atlantic 252 posted 2 minutes ago'

Latest output seems much as I expected - Euro high and SWerly flow - the new winter default pattern.

The ink is hardly dry on the Netweather winter forecast calling for a cold start to winter, and up pops ugly old uncle Barty. You really couldn't make it up! Roll on April when we'll no doubt get a decent shot at a nationwide blizzard...

I think anything beyond 144 hours should be banned. I'll admit, I do like seeing FI charts for eye candy.. but they never verify, so what's the point? It's like somebody telling you that you're going on holiday in a few weeks and then cancelling it the next day.

Yada, Yada, Yada...... the perennial chatter and clichéd metaphors of torpedos getting launched and trains leaving, and all  things cold landing....and...... Yada Yada Yada. Maybe the entire netweather community would like to join me in sending our best wishes to the train carrying -10 uppers that hit the buffers last week, after a suppose shake up in the Northern hemisphere. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope the weight of expectation doesn't stop them traveling in our general direction sometime soon.

I agree they should make a 0-144hr thread for serious discussion.  And then a seperate thread 168-384hr for fantasy anything goes so to speak.

Indeed the ECM never showed any sort of Northerly so peoples hope would of never been raised.

I find myself on an evening catching up in the MOD thread sifting through 10 pages of waffle just to see 5 to 10 informative posts.

I do pop in to model thread and add a few exasperated words about the constant banging on and excitement about pressure chats beyond 3days . The met office on there surface pressure chart page say they have low confidence on any charts beyond  5 days so good points made above. I'll stick to the BBC week ahead forecast rather than getting hung up on volatile model outputs

Between 144 and 192h are the most interesting ecmwf charts with the 168h probably the most interesting of those. 168h never comes true it will always be a variation of that chart. Too bad people here look at and discuss the >192h so much because these won't ever come true and we won't even get a variation but something very different

Agreed C.S, The GFS is showing during the day temps at best will briefly be at 3s and 4s, (for central/south UK)  ....(But what I'm looking forward to this week is @ 4 to 7pm not far off freezing for most late afternoons and below come the evenings :cold:

It'll make a big change to just seeing frosts come the morning......and wait for it............1st day of Winter Thursday  :santa-emoji:

not quite sick bucket, to me looks mainly dry, dry is the key for Dec, which I nominate as the wettest, most westerly month of the year, closely followed by Jan

That actually gave wintry showers to some parts. There was sleet to sea level here, Christmas Eve 2013. That's how close it was to winning a white Christmas bet that winter.
