The system is a farce now. The media naming the storms before the met is part of it, but the fact the met are so inconsistent with it hasn't helped at all. What's more ridiculous is that official bodies such as Natural Resources Wales are even using it in flood alerts

I look forward to the confusion if/when we actually get the official Storm Doris. I reckon this will see the scheme scrapped for next season.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it may be. Although they could partially solve it by not releasing the names in advance I suppose. That said, I think the lack of naming from the met may highlight a lack of enthusiasm in the project!

FWIW, I've always found the idea of naming 'intense depressions' rather silly. What's the point, after all?:cc_confused:

Never thought it was a good idea, they set themselves out for a fall by naming storms, time to call it a day.

I think it's all a bit of a farce now. Obviously the likes of The Express want to splash 'STORM X ABOUT TO BATTER THE UK!' all over their front pages because it sells papers to their target market

The most disruptive 'not-storm' in my backyard was 'not-storm' Barbara back in November which brought serious flash flooding and very dangerous driving conditions to parts of Greater Manchester. If they'd named it a storm I might have reconsidered choosing to ride my bike home through rivers of water, the forecast just suggested it would be a bit blowy and rainy but not anything particularly alarming.

They should at least not bother pre-releasing the alphabet of storm names so the media can't jump the gun with storm naming.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
