What was your prediction for me?

4cm HC.

I think I overestimated for most folks (except for myself!), in some cases quite badly but it's not Saturday yet and I guess I'm just a natural optimist!

Difficult walking out there today with deep snow/slush where drifts formed 20170113_110549.jpg 20170113_110417.jpgBrighter now and back down to 0.5c with skin forming on the wet snow and any puddles.

One of farm tracks begining to have drifts crossing it last night and  a  stormy looking snow shower to the NE

When this lot freezes tonight we are going to be left with a lot of scars of snow for up to a week even it gets fairly mild but Ive seen a ground frost sneak in quickly in light winds and any clear skies at night to preserve it.

Well if we're moving on to trying to find the next 'cold spell' that probably won't be up to much then this mornings GFS 6z run provides us with it....

gfsnh-0-240.png?6  gfs-1-240.png?6

I'm not going to get excited quite yet, if fact given the winter so far I doubt anything much on the models will get me excited unless it looks like 'the day after tomorrow'.

TBF - the GFS had the "cold spell" pretty much spot on, and from way before...

@Ravelin is suffering from 'disappointment bias' - I recognise the symptoms all too clearly. Another good NEly blast is what he needs... :air_kiss:

Snow shower here at Riccarton, W. Embra.

What are the chances of that!

101_North might even be getting a few flakes.

Thank you all for sharing lovely snowy pictures - why could it not have done that when I was home at Christmas? Horizontal rain just does not set the scene. :D

Funny, it's just done the same here in Dyce i.e finally caught a shower when it's cold enough for it to settle. Easing off now by the looks of it.

I'm genuinely surprised at the lack of snow in the west. This is at the back of my Dad's house in Kilmacolm at about 130m:

Yep. Pretty poor for a northwesterly, just not enough showers being driven in. Usually you get heavy rain showers  followed by intense hailstorms before it turns to snow, just wasn't unstable enough this time.

Really disappointed - I was expecting at least a few minutes of "spot the eagle" - but it's in the sky, with nothing obscuring it - making it super easy to spot in 5 seconds!

You owe me a more time consuming challenge :)

Hmm.. maybe turn on a rolling news channel and see how long you can watch them hysterically cover the weather without holding your head in your hands or p::sing yersel
