Winter might start about ten days from now...

Nope! This is not the model thread. I appreciate that this *also gestures vaguely in the general direction of any window* sucks - but we all know that "here it comes guys - it's just 10 days away" never gets closer than 7 days away.......

One of these times the GFS has to be right at +260hrs??

True - but let's wait for it to manage some sort of accuracy at T+96 (this winter) before we ask for more haha

1.3C here. It's been snowing on and off all day but nothing to show for it. I imagine West Lomond is getting a nice white top up though :)

From what I can see of the Sutherland hills from Buckie (telescope assisted!), they have been plastered down to low level.

We've got 4 inches of snow and still snowing!!

Seems like a crap winter when someone a thousand feet up a Scottish mountain gets 4" of snow and the biggest cheer of the day...

@mardatha - no disrespect to you or your snow meant

About 40% frozen slush cover left  in the moonlight and a ground frost at 1.5c. Still wintry.

I was just thinking that earlier today - when people were living vicariously through snow in BC..... I mean it's bad enough having to live vicariously through snow elsewhere in the UK - but when you have to do it via an entirely different country - something is very very wrong......

I'm convinced it's nature's revenge for the Brexit vote - although that doesn't explain why Scotland's being targetted.

In Place of Strife Interesting Weather, today's theme is decay...

An abandoned boat - I wonder who Connie is?

And just round the corner, a couple of drums to catch rainwater, except not doing a very good job...

Our snow yesterday didnt lie for long, then turned to rain later. Snowing again now though and the fields and hills are all still white.

Quite a few fairly potent snow showers today but they were brief. At one point it was starting to settle but stopped before it really had a chance. Pretty damp, miserable and cold out there now.

Saturday - Cool , damp with light rain at times, dull & grey

Sunday - Cool, damp with light rain at times, dull & grey

Today - Cool, damp feeling but dry so far, dull & grey

Oh, there may have been some wet snow falling on Sunday evening but I'd lost interest so only very briefly glanced out past the blinds.

I think there is a lot of that about right now.... I certainly have. Especially when the snow turned to rain and I thought - well, that was utterly pointless then.

Summer of 72 - I remember it well. My last summer of freedom before starting at big school. I got taken to the school uniform shop and dressed up in some dreadful stiff, dark blue clothes that I quickly outgrew but weren't replaced (for the obvious reason) till next year. I spent the rest of the summer with this huge dark cloud hanging over me, and it didn't lift till I left school.  Nearly all the teachers from that era are dead now - I keep an eye on the local paper still cos there's a couple left...

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
