Some SS's Sunday stroll snaps.

Climbed Black Hill just south of Earlston with my 4 girls (Mrs SS, Mini Miss SS, Islay [pictured] & Lily). Snow in the distance on some of the higher border hills.

Frosty the morn; lovely sushine as we climbed.

Wee bit of snaw fell form the sky yesterday in between the rain. Drove to Edinburgh earlier and the Pentlnds looked nice and white on the upper peaks.

-4.1C here so looks as if it's going to be a cold one.

Been a nice day, got out for a wander around the local woods with our youngest this morning. Sunny, cool but not cold, snow on the hills in the background (slowly but visibly disappearing due to the sun).

-6.4C at 7:30am this morning and a frost on the car windscreen that was immune to the scraper. Currently some scattered fluffy clouds around but mainly blue skies and no wind.

Reached -9'C here in the wee small hours, currently -4'C with a penetrating frost and freezing fog. That's more like it!

Looks like the end of this wee cauld snap today, but it's been decent enough here. Overnight low of -3.0C and still some snaw patches hanging on from Fri/Sat. Very grey but looks and feels like proper winter.

Looks like interesting stuff starting to happen in the strat - mid-Feb cauld spell?

Currently -1.0C/-2C.

Same here, Ravelin, -6C at 8am, and I did what one is not supposed to do and left the engine running with heater going full blast for 10mins or so.  :nonono:The ice crystals in the water jets for the windscreen wipers did not clear until about 25 miles up the road.

A few localised patches of lying snow around particularly in and just north of Old Meldrum.

Temps have recovered now to +2C.  It's cloudy, threatening a shower with a slight breeze from the SW.

If your car has roof rails, try a bit of old shower curtain or similar tied over the screen and around the wipers...  I usually forget though!

Not a bad day at the Lecht, thought the snow is rather thin, it's at least managed to get open and the Sun was out for chunks of the day though the wind and cloud increased through the afternoon.  I see from the Aberdeen 850hp ensemble graph that the 12z GFS went off on one today - should I look at the model thread? :cold:

Back to snoozy gloom. Yawn.

You not got the wind then? Pretty gusty here this morning, although, yes, very gloomy. And rain later probably. Oh well.

Nah, it's a proper snooze fest. Not even a breeze. I see the models are lining us up for another wild goose chase. I'm not convinced I can be bothered.

This winter chase has left me leaning to one side on my chair with my eyelashes flickering and drool dripping from the corner of my mouth........Please, no more!!

From now on, I'm only trusting the BBC!

Two Helen Willetts... there's only two Helen Willetts..... :D

Anyhoo..... I see it's once again gone into overdrive on the MT. Do they have justification FINALLY this time??!

Well I'll admit that the models are beginning to look interesting, but whether the resulting weather can actually become interesting is yet undetermined. Still looking at mid next week at the earliest I'd have though for anything colder than average, with a windy period maybe providing some minor excitement tomorrow/Friday.

In the meantime, 1C here currently under a sheet of grey/white cloud and no noticeable wind.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
