Happy New Year all! A bit parky oot this morning, just escorted the cat from my bedroom where she played, scratched furniture, tore paper and snored most of the night which explains my wide awakeness at 6.52am! Not good! Had a few wee flurries of something during the night but not amounted to anything. Might go for a walk later on before we scoff steak pie!

Happy New Year Forum people!

@A Winter's Tale - did you know your signature is a tad out of date - listing stats for 2013?

Fingers crossed I might see something vaguely wintery today.... I'll count sleet at this point....

A really miserable day strong N wind overcast and heavy showers of hail and sleet currently 2c ground saturated on the surface. Just peeled a pile of tatties and parsnips not going to starve

Happy New Year kilties! All the best for the year ahead

Oc and snow showers here this morning, only a wee dusting so far but after two days of horrible, rainy mince, I'll take it

Sleety, thick rain hammering against the window and a strong wind as accompaniment, rather chilly too! A walk? Not if this keeps up! (Creeps nearer radiator with wooly blanket).

Happy new year kilters. Hope everyone had a good hogmanay and heads not too sore the morn.

Lovely clear winter morning here after a frost. Went for a walk with family and dugs at Scott's View and the Wallace statue. Timed it well as that's the showers started now.

Sunshine and cold rain showers, here, with a biting northerly breeze. Temp 3C. Some snow is sticking to the hill tops. There have been some fine rainbows too.

Off out soon with a lump of coal in one hand and shortbread in the other :)  - scottish cliches, I know, but neighbours like it, I think.

Ah, New Year, that'll be why the ski slopes were so quiet this morning.:D

A Happy New Year to you all.

Just one more day skiing in the sunshine then it's back to the land of the dreich. It does make me wonder sometimes why I love Scotland so much.

It picked up a bitty earlier and we ended up with a wee covering, nothing special but it's nice and white outside to kick of 2017

My dear lady has been rough as hell so I've been on nurse duties "I don't give a s**t if it's snowing get me the bloody paracetamol please" was my favourite line of the day. She's grand now, thanks to the healing qualities of a banana sandwich and a certain Scottish ginger nectar

Firstly Happy New Year and lang may yer lum reek to all.

Ma missus still in the her bed terrified to move her head. No sympathy from me, I was on my DHC tablets, so stuck to 0% beer and juice, thus nae hangover for me. :yahoo:

Was cold with frost just forming when we got in around 4am, which was a shock after leaving the hoose at 8pm and nearly 10C. Been a no bad day but the wind has picked up and is about 2.5C with dark clouds to the east and north.

Been hovering between 0 and 1 all day here and we had some snow earlier. Think it's melted now though. Utter pits.

There's been a wee bit of discussion on a serious thread about infrastructure, however:-

I’m a regular user of Scotrail. The organisation has not let me down –well -maybe just on one or two occasions over the years.

Back to anecdotes, recently, the very helpful customer services staff, including the station manager, at Waverley, helped me retrieve some very personal items which were in a co-op plastic bag, :nonono:and left on board, after I jumped on and off a train which subsequently had left the station and was not scheduled to stop at my destination.

I collected the lost lot, as directed, at Dundee. :D Many thanks to Scotrail.

Great walk today from Arbroath to Broughty Ferry. Weather was ideal, some lovely coastal views.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
