Very pleased with the coming scenario. Reminds me of the Feb 12 event in general setup.

It could all go wrong though as a similar event at the end of Dec 05 showed (an hour of snow after a few days of easterlies and then heavy rain).

Given that the mesoscale models largely show an all snow event I am generally optimistic.

For my location the Met Office suggest 5 hours of snow before an hour of sleet as the front passes.

After the last few Winters I don' see the point in Moaning about how long it will last.

Let' just enjoy it the winter scene even if it's only for a few hours.

Local forecast has gone back up too 3 hrs of Snow for us. I think that's optimistic but we shall see. Temps down to 1.4C here. In theory should drop quite nicely as we've now lost the wind but then expected an air frost yesterday and the temperatures went up overnight.

Yes Look North and main weather graphics look good for us all tomorrow just now on the news. 10-15cm for higher parts of Sheffield and peak district. Hopefully all will see at least a few cm as per the warnings

:cold:

Yes, it's gone from a 9 hour event shown yesterday to about 2-3 hours, although could well be heavy.  It just isn't going to be around too long!

Just outside the amber warning here, but I think we could see a few cm's before it turns to sleet and rain.

Delivering around Leeds areas tomorrow morning in a rear wheel drive 26 tonne truck, half of me thinking YAY SNOW, but other half is dreading it as very likely to get stuck. :help:

Similar to here probably, few hours of settling snow then turning to sleet and rain.

Usually up by 6am regardless of day/holidays due to 30 years of alarm clock waking me up to travel to work, so yes I'll be up...

Well after seeing the forecast tonight I feel totally underwhelmed for us in West Yorkshire. 2 hours of snow before turning back to rain by 8am. But saying that South Yorkshire and the peaks should do well enjoy guys. But for us in the West of the region I think a very transient affair is the best bet with maybe a few cms before the rain sets in towards rush hour.

Why an amber warning then?

Ive just been sat watching the news on sky news and bbc. They keep mentioning how its going to be coldest night of winter? Surely they are basing that on winter starting on 21st and not the 1st??

That's what I thought! I'm hoping for 5-10cm here in West Leeds. I'm heading back to Kent but waited an extra night to see this. Doesn't snow much ever down there so anything is good for me.

Im in the Met Office amber warning area. Met Office app states 3 hrs of sleet. If human forecasters say one thing and the app says another, do they not have some sort of error message in their system to prevent confusing messages to the public?

The automated forecasts have no human input at all, they're just computer generated. I wouldn't place too much faith in them.
