Raining Inn Sheffield right now but lots of ppn to come looking at radar and intensity looks good. As the afternoon goes on the temps should drop. Hopefully will see snow.

Current conditions at home though aren't good, 3c with dew point 2c!

Light sleet in Barnsley currently, but radar showing the precip turning increasingly to snow to the West.

Looking closely at the radar it looks like a flop from Leeds to Sheffield, the main area over costal parts of NW England is starting to loose intensity and dissappear, the next area of energy is starting to form East of Leeds and Sheffield. So the radar is giving of the impression that there is lots to come out west but its definitely starting to wane.

Thursday could well deliver but we'll see.

The snow is arriving as scheduled as far as I can tell, live radar shows it now progressing past Sheffield moving east.

Unfortunately it isn’t snow in Sheffield.  Just lots of rain!  Same in Barnsley as well.  Check out the M1 cameras between J30 and J37, which is where the heaviest area of precip is currently showing on the radar.  If we are lucky we may see some light backedge snow later in the day, but currently it just isn’t cold enough for snow here.

Yep, that is what Radar shows but it isn’t currently correct.  The weather type radar uses a combination of actual radar image plus hi-res model input to produce a forecast of precip type (for want of a better phrase) to provide the image.

The radar was showing rain for Barnsley , which is where you are , so I would suggest it is correct.

A selection of current camera images from the area of the m1 that your radar image shows as under snow...

Fair play to the Met Office. Much more accurate than the BBC so far.
