read the met office forecast for our region!! blizzards firecast and it may be automated but its normally always correct on their site but this time.

More often or not wrong in reality. Much better getting the weather from actual people on the ground especially in this type of nowcasting situation.  Now can see the first spots of rain on my window. I think the snow forecast for us can be dropped now. It's just a question of whether it will freeze or not.

I've just got into London now so won't be able to see the rain or snow.

As long as there is intensity there should be snow on high ground in the lighter bursts probably light rain/ice pellets.

We've played this game before don't forget what it shows ladies and gentlemen it's case of looking out of the window.

The front now seems to beefing up a bit. It does need some weetabix though rapidly.

From Steve Murr on the SE thread...

"For Kent essex / SE london the ppn is likely now to be rain- this is because the melt layer ( ~950mb ) is turning the snow to rain- because PPN is light its melting as its falling snow through the melt layer

thats why hastings etc got snow in that very heavy PPN zone because the snow is getting through the melt layer"

Yep just a case of looking out the window now this afternoon.

Not sure how accurate immediate forecast is on meto website, but you'd hope the best in the world would get the next few hours right lol. I have heard that the website doesn't have human input though

I might nip to Malton later to Morrison's for some bits and pieces can't get much from Pickering really.

Even though it's nearer for me.

Im going to Morrisons in the next hour, expecting it to be busy with everyone going out before the bad weather arrives.

Just been out to Bakewell and back drizzling all the way had no problems on the roads so far temps ranging from -1.5c to 0c on my journey.

One thing that is very noticeable is the windchill it feels absolutely vile out there today.

Decided not to go to the concert tonight in leeds, don't want to risk it, it may not even do nothing weather wise but it's better to be safe

I have been with friends to ikea though in sheffield it was empty! so was the roads,  temp was 4c as we left ikea car park as we arrived into barnsley it was down to 1c! and raining

Assume that was car thermometer though? It's actually 0C in Sheffield currently.

ps, wise decision not going. Over on TWO, Tim A is reporting freezing rain in his part of Leeds. -0.4C.

Raining not freezing here at the moment temperature 0.3C though.

Car thermometer are a very poor guide mine is always 1C to 2C to high at least.

In November we had some early light rain and despite temperatures being below zero it didn't freeze. Interesting mix with the frost on the car as well.

Looks like a write off judging by reports. Also the snow would be in the intense bursts which looks like skirting North Yorkshire

Cool pic though!

It's such a strange thing. And rare in the UK. Even Keeley said on look North yesterday in all her years she's hardly seen it and certainly not an amber warning for it before

Couldn't disagree more. We have reports of freezing rain in places, deteriorating conditions, significant windchill, snow in some places, too.

Oh, and it's 2pm as well.

Granted I'm in London so can only by reports. Though judging by the freezing rain report in Ilkley conditions are probably going to bad from Leeds northwards.
