Looking like won't as the temperature in Sheffield is currently -1.1 at the moment the highest it has been for a good few days.

There's a lot more to it than just the air temperature! Anyway -1.1C isn't exactly discouraging :D

I have just been looking at the netweather radar and the snow storm off the coast of Wales seems to be building all the time but is not moving westwards. Is this normal or some sort of radar glitch?

Just looking at the radar and that glut of precipitation that’s over the south seems to have stalled somewhat - it doesn’t seem to be shifting much further north past Nottingham - is that the stuff that’s meant to be coming up to us later today?

Quite surprising in a relatively small area how much snow cover has varied, first day back at work (well making an appearance) i started at my fathers near Woodhall Spa it was fairly white big drifts in the road edges , to Brigg and our office snowy but not as much via Scunthorpe which was patchy in comparison back home to Bessacarr (Donny) Mrs had killed car battery:nonono: and then down to Retford which was even snowier, Donny and Nth Notts seem to have copped more thats for sure, did enjoy snowballing my 3 Jack Russells mind (in works time of course:D) in all seriousness work was cancelled, least they give the poor squirrels a break :D

It seems surprisingly there's literally nothing coming off the North Sea in this strong easterly wind. Especially as it's so cloudy and there's clearly moisture about (there's a hint of snizzle every now and then).

The cloud shield from the front will be killing any convection and in any event we have lost the really cold uppers now so convection will not be as 'good' (looks like only light showers even further North now?)

Still bitterly cold outside. We have some epic icicles forming off the slowly melting roof and an ice stalactite!

Just on the topic of this system moving up from the south..

Most the region should see some falls not a great deal but some places In the south of our region could see a couple of inches maybe slightly more over the higher routes the further north a little lighter maybe afew cm in places especially the higher ground as temperatures still remain below freezing. As we all know with the surface temps as low as they are light snow builds up quickly and with this system been so slow moving it could be quite prolonged and cause a few further problems. Sunday another system looks to be pushing its way in a similar fashion with snow on the higher ground and inland and sleet further towards the coasts maybe rain or freezing rain mixed in..

Lets see what happens as these few days have really been about Nowcasting but I does seem at least a few of us will have a little finale to the weeks events. Looks like I’m resorting to a bottle of wine ? at home instead of mine normal Friday beers with the lads. :drinks:

Would love another dumping of snow but cant see anything more than a dusting saturday morning.. South yorkshire may get 2-5 cm out of this stuff to the south.

apparantly the band is dying out rather than pushing further north?

Think that may be it now for most in our region, think my winter weather watching has now come to an end.

See you all again around november time! ?
