Absolutely throwing it down when I left for Malton station just before 5. Arrived at Scarborough 20 mins late (not weather related) and station roof has more holes than a fishing net, and driving rain had found all of them. Wife picked me up, it had stopped by the time I got home but there were some serious floods on the road. When I went out to the woodshed about 30 mins ago sky has cleared, but didnt feel as cold. Looking at animation on radar it looks like low may have stalled, or is certainly moving very slowly, circulation can be clearly seen.

It's stopped here on about 33mm just short of wettest 2016 day of 34.8mm in March
Mind with the strong wind earlier the gauge probably missed at least 10%

Hello????!!!!  Anybody here?????!!!!!

It's been nearly a week!

Perhaps that is because the weather has been so mundane lately?

Could be a cold one tonight and hopefully it will stay on the cold side of average for the foreseeable.   :cold:

The wait goes on for a proper snowy blast however.....

Hello, Yes we are still here yet excitement is only from frost, fog and inversions currently, no sign of the white stuff. November looks like coming in below average and December looking like starting on a chilly note so so far so good, but at the end of the day most of us on here want snow, and we want it now.

Most long range forecasts pointing towards a colder winter which should increase our chances of snow, but until I see it at t0 hrs in the models the sledge remains covered in dead spiders in the shed!

Purchased these beasts the other day so hoping the get a good workout this winter.

Anyway here's a few pics from the inversion on Saturday morning looking from the Yorkshire Wolds over the Vale of York/Pickering

Only managed a low of -1.7c due to a slight breeze continuing overnight, however temp remained below freezing until 11am and its currently only 1.6c.

Might make 3c but it will soon drop off back to freezing by tea time.

Cloud due to increase into late evening so not expecting a frost come tomorrow morning.

Yes for all the talk of an extended cold spell in November this year the lowest temperature I have recorded IMBY is -2.1c the night before last.....

Cold but nowhere near exceptional for the time of year.

Really feels like winter today, its a shame about the forecast.

Had a min of -3.1c this morning then we peaked at 1.3c this afternoon with most places still white over and no frost melt.

Frost setting back in now at 0.2c :cold:

Freezing again when I got off the train at about 6.30, looks like we will have more extensive fog tomorrow morning, there were some fog patches east of Malton. With no wind the moderating effect of the sea doesn't have as much effect here, smoke from chimneys was just hanging tonight, and forming layers.

Sixteen days and counting since the last post.

Surely a winter record?!

The weather is still as dull as dishwater though to be fair and there is nothing remotely exciting on the way either (unless 14c on Christmas day floats your boat!)

Nothing to see here.  Move along please.....

Kentish sums it up a branch swayer Friday and Sunday but nothing more then back to boring quiet weather with the euro slug sliding back into place.

Winds peaked higher and earlier than predicted from values shown this morning. Now watching the squall line too see if it materializes here or not.

Woke up to a pretty impressive frost this morning.  :cold:

Maybe an outside chance for some of the white stuff to herald in 2017 as well?

yes last 2 mornings have been white over like snow! Nice to see, and lovely blue skies! :)

In fact the frost never went yesterday and doesnt look like going today either. Nice!

Yeah fingers crossed with a bit of snow. From what im reading, perhaps an outside chance of back-edge snow as the front clears Sat night/Sun morning and then were going to have to hope for a few snow showers but inland isnt looking good atm!

What is this snowy feature crossing our region from the North on NYD I see?  This chart is for 6pm on 01/01/17 from the 0z GFS run by the way.

Lets see if it is still there on the next run but definitely one to keep an eye on.....

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
