Radar is saying its snowing at Settle already, so thats a good sign.

Temp keeps dropping here, should be ~2.5c when its outer edge hits in 45 minutes. Main bulk won't be till this evening though when it should be a lot colder.

The Arpege is a little less bullish about the Eastern extent of snow.wintry mix this morning. Still really good to be talking of snow so early on, rather than gales and flooding.

I think i`ll take the 12z as an upgrade :cold:

Bad news the front is a fairly weak affair unless it gets stronger it will fall as light rain for most of us. Worth keeping an eye on radar for any strengthening if not a damp night ahead.

Not really expecting anything really from this tonight. Think North Yorkshire moors will do ok from it and parts around 600m above sea level. But for majority of us I'm expecting mostly rain with maybe a sleety wet mix. But can't see any accumulations to lower levels.

Here towards the coast I don't think we'll have much precipitation of any sort, but highest bits have retained snow all day today - and below 2C now so will be snow if we get anything.

Just got home. Still looks good in the forecast. Im still feeling a boxing day 2014 scenario.....might well start as rain. Just got out of the car which showed 4c so we shall see. BBC still shows hours of heavy snow right into mid morning tomorrow so..The good thing is there isnt a breath of wind so evaporative cooling should be able to come into effect and lend us a hand.

Can see the front is hardly moving so not surprised they are predicting hours of snow. Lets all hold our breath now! :cold::cold::D

Temp 3.5C dew point zooming up now 0.4C. GFS shows the low dew points continuing to move away so not good. Boxing 2014 the front was a lot more active and we just happened to be in a right spot.

Given that I'm in Norfolk and that the SE&EA thread seems to be the SE&EA  thread nowadays, I wonder whether us Norfolk types would be more at home in this thread?  Just a thought, Moderators?

Radar has precipitation over us but clearly evaporating before it falls this far. Dry as bone.

I'd expect there to be rain at first, LBA is at 2.c currently so not a bad start, I'm not gonna hype up this possible snow event as I wont be in Leeds for another month but if I was on high ground I'd be excited.

Temps are not due to fall away until after midnight when the wind switches.

That is when any fun and games will start.  This 'event' was always forecast to start off with a few hours of rain first.....

You always come to this conclusion and we end up with a foot of snow lol.

Can report rain here at the moment, just started. As mentioned above by myself and a few others, was always going to rain first and then turn overnight to snow....hopefully ;)

where have you moved from Paul :)

Guildford, had a good snow event in early 2009 but slim pickings down there, even December of that same year wasn't as epic as elsewhere. Still looking promising for later!

Don't expect any falling or lying snow before 11pm at the earliest. Heavy precipitation and a South Easterly wind and associated DP's won't improve until then

Me either! With the cold pool that's been in place this week it's not far fetched to expect 5-8cm to low ground east of the Pennines from Midnight until 8am. It's currently sleet where I am at 70metres. There will be snow in the heavy bursts I'm almost positive of it
