Well the meto extended forecast is going for generally unsettled up until the 20th Jan, and even later than that the chance of cold is now pushed back to late Jan/early Feb.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a few flakes of snow on the North Yorkshire Moors in the early hours of Wed morning. Winds will be coming straight from the North , it will be cold enough at altitude and there will be a bit of precipitation about too.

Yes things looking a little better now after a few weeks of awful model output and equally awful stagnant weather through Dec.

Let's hope we are rewarded for our patience with this winter so far!

Moors looks prime for a covering of snow by morning, especially above 200m if the showers are beefy enough.

We are forecast sleet here for a time overnight which is about as exciting as the winter has been so far.

Tempted to drive up in morning for some snow pics if there is any.

It's a little showery and some wet flakes + hail in it, hill tops don't look white but I guess proper snow at times up there. 2.8C here.

Met office

UK Outlook for Wednesday 16 Jan 2019 to Friday 25 Jan 2019:

Cloudy skies and a spell of rain will slowly edge southeastwards on Wednesday, clearing most places by the end of the day. Behind this it will turn clearer and colder from the north by Thursday, with scattered blustery showers, becoming wintry across northern areas. Winds will be strong with a risk of gales in the north at times. Thereafter, it looks set to remain mainly cold, unsettled and sometimes windy, with any milder spells tending to be brief and associated with longer spells of rain. The rain could turn to snow almost anywhere, but particularly across northern and central areas. especially later in this period. Some drier, brighter, quieter spells are likely, perhaps with snow showers, especially in the east. During such spells, frost could become widespread and severe.

Blizzards possible next weekend over high ground in North Yorkshire.

Lower levels to happy 4x4 days lads and lasses.

Certainly some very interesting charts appearing now. Looks like the next few days (possibly weeks) are going to be spent checking the models with every spare moment. Hopefully some lamp post watching will be thrown in for good measure!

Still all a long way away and details will change, but it's about trends, and at the moment they're heading in the right direction if you like cold.

Security lights are a good choice.

Last year my electric company nearly bankrupted me .

Last February ' Mrs sorepaw said you can have your evening meal in the garden if you want

We have a lovely bright one on the back so will have to use that.

Evening meal in the garden sounds like a great idea. Wouldn't miss a flake then

Hi

Its very volotile in the mod thread at the moment, almost as much as the models themselves haha!

Still looks good for us in Yorkshire to turn cold from about next Thursday and hopefully staying cold thereafter! A chance that things could get a little less cold for a while but im hopefull we will see the last of the mild tomorrow for a very long time. As for snow, well no one can say this far out but a chance these slider lows coming in could deliver for Yorkshire. Lots to keep us all interested anyway and its so nice to have some fun weather watching to look forward too ❄️
